Questions on Calibers Used...

Hello. I was curious as to what the membership carried for concealed use?

The only one that I have that's not a 1911 or variant of 1911 is a .22 S&W target.

No substitute for horsepower!

Hello and thanks to all for your replies. For around the house and 24/7, I carry a J-frame .38 loaded with Remington 158-gr. LSWCHP +P. I also practice with it regularly. When I wear a belt gun, it's either a Browning 9mm Hi Power loaded with Winchester 127-gr. +P+ or a 1911 loaded with the same company's Ranger T 230-gr. JHP.

Best and thank you all again.

It depends.
A carpenter does not use only one hammer for everything.
I've been known to carry guns of caliber ranging from .32ACP all the way up to .45ACP!!
Lately, it's the P3AT or Pistolet Makarova that finds it's way into my pocket.
I'm rather fond of the Glock 36 and Kahr MK9 also.

I carry a 1911 clone in .45 everywhere that I am allowed by law. I carry ball in it for people and change to my frangible ammo mag when I walk the dog for coyote and javelina protection. I carry it in a Predator IWB.

I will change to my 2" .357 w/silvertips if I'll be carrying for 8 hours or more. The high rise pancake holster is very comfortable and I forget that its there sometimes.

I normally carry a 9mm Makarov, or a Ruger in 9mm.

not really allowed to carry, buuut. as a "luggage" gun on the road. 1911 w/ Remington Golden Sabers

Stephen, your mention of the LSWCHP+P brought back memories. I used that load in my 85CH when I had it. A way underrated load for sure. Wasn't that the old FBI load?

Hello. Yes, it's sometimes referred to as that or the "Chicago" or "Dallas load."

Best.

To my way of thinking, there are very few absolutes where concealed carry is concerned. There is no "one best" gun, or caliber, or carry method. And, of course, carrying a gun is a huge responsibility. And it's undeniable that a small gun on your person is far superior to a "one-shot manstopper" in the car or safe. Beyond that, did I miss any absolutes?
For years my choice has been a Glock 23, and I like that gun very, very much. However, there have been times when its size had it staying in the truck, or at home in the safe, since the only way I've found to carry it is a fanny pack and, where I live, that shouts "gun". I didn't want to go below .40 caliber, but was determined not to go below 9mm, and find a gun that could go where I go. I finally came to a Kahr PM9, 9mm, seven shots full up. And, contrary to what some will say, I can handle that caliber in that small gun quite well. The same gun is available in .40 but a person whose judgement I trust completely told me the recoil is too great for quick followup shots with that, and so I got the 9mm. So now my largest is still .40 S&W, my smallest 9mm. I would hate to go below the 9mm, and see no need to with the very small size of the PM9. My two cents worth. ;-)

The usual nowadays is a .45acp and a .357 as a backup, but with the cold and people starting to dress thicker now, gonna be going back to .45acp and a warm loaded .45 colt pushing a 300gr XTP.
