Finally got my permit

24 hour background check and $10 later I'm legal to carry in AL and 16 other states! Here are my thoughts, I can walk into a gun shop and walk out five minutes later with a new pistol in hand. In order to legally carry it I have to pass a 24 hour check, now tell me what should be harder to do, buy it or carry it? I just think they kinda got things a little mixed up! LoL

My next project is to get a class III permit and start competing in some of the machine gun shoots around here.

Man your lucky. It costs us about $200.00 to get a CWC permit here in NC. Are you sure you didn't just pay $10 for a handgun "purchase" permit? That doesn"t give you a permit to carry.

Nope we don't need permits to purchase here. It only costs $10 a year for a conealed carry permit. As a matter of fact NC is one of the states that honors AL permits.

Howdy there BamaBowTie... Congratulations on your new concealed carry permit in Alabama. Carry safely. Here in Missouri it's a whole lot different, similar to Sniper762's situation.

Here, after buying a handgun we fill out a purchase form for the firearm in order to take possession. This form is taken to our county sheriff, and after paying $10 he does a computer background check(took about 20 minutes in my case) and he issues a gun permit. Only then is the gun dealer allowed to hand over your gun.

Then, to get the CCW permit, we must take an eight hour course on firearm safety and CCW regulations, as well as pass a proficiency examination for both a pistol and revolver. This costs $150 in my county.

Then I have head back to the Sheriff's office with the certificate of completion of the CCW course and pay them $82 supposedly for their time and effort fingerprinting me and for other related expenses???, whatever that may be.

Then, within 45 days, by Missouri State Law, the sheriff must issue me a CCW license.

Obviously, this isn't as simple as in a few states, but at least it's eventually possible, if we pass through enough hoops, to carry. I'm about ready to take the $150 safety and carry regulations course so hope to have my CCW by Xmas. :right:

God I love Pa, only takes about 15min to purchase a gun. Takes about a half an hour to get a permit to carry, it costs $25., and is good for 5 years.
