I suspect the poster was referring to the fact that most people carry weapons in Israel, including teachers.

The founding fathers expected those elected to public office to have a real job that they could/would return after their stint as a public servant. They did not expect these elected officals to stay in public office untl they retired or died! But then they, the founding fathers, expected gov't officals to be honest, hard workin folks! You know any honest, hard workin politicians? I sure as he$$ don't! | |

Although I agree with the idea in theory, I shudder when I try to picture most of my kids' teachers over the years with guns in their hands. Nice folks as a rule, and some were good teachers, but most of them weren't exactly steady-nerved, physically competent types.

In high school, I had a Vietnam Vet as a science teather. He would occassionally have flashbacks. We had some Vietnamese students and a few times they caused his flashbacks during class. I would hate for him to have a gun available to him in those situations. He flipped out pretty bad those few times. Didn't harm anyone, but yelled, cussed & went unconsciously wide-eyed, like looking into the eyes of a blind person. He was one of my favorite teachers, I really enjoyed his class and his teaching style. But, kinda freaked me out the couple times that happened, and didn't know quite sure what he was capable of doing during those instances. Other than that, if someone is competent, willing and able to safely carry and utilize a weapon in an institution of education, I am all for it.

From historical reports it has been shown in movies (and we know they're all fact.(ha)), etc, that law enforcement officials, like Wyatt Earp, regularly required all patrons in saloons to leave their guns outside or turn them over to the sheriff in case they got drunk, lost control of their good judgment, and started firing away. But...there were some people who resented this and carried inside, regardless of the law at that time. Now we're proposing that all personell in schools, who have legally qualified for CCW's, be allowed or even encouraged to carry as they carry out their professional duties. Which do I think is the best scenario? Definitely the latter one where everyone who has trained, taken tests, had a mental background test, and otherwise qualified for a legal CCW be allowed to do so in schools. And...this includes all schools, from elementary to high school and college, both public and private.

The Second Amendment reads: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." I reckon that applies to teachers as well. If they are ok to put information in our childrens heads, why wouldn't they be OK for concealed or open carry? Some of you may remember the quote, "Beneath the rule of men entirely great, the pen is mightier than the sword." (Edward George Bulwer Lytton)

HAHA Apolly, actually that is a good idea. Let teachers OPEN carry. That might straighten up the students a bit!

I worked as a substitute teacher years ago, often in "rough" neighborhoods. I often thought quite a bit about the protection of the students. If I could have carried, I would have. Since 911, while picking my kids up from school, I've always done what was legally permitted in Tennessee...had a gun present in the car, but never touched it or allowed others to touch (or for that matter to even be aware of) it. Now my kids are in college. My son's studying criminal justice and is planning on a career as an LEO. He's trained for years in various martial arts. I sure wish he could legally carry, as well as the staff and faculty. I'd feel a lot better. Yes, I'd feel better about it if teachers could carry legally. I'd feel better if every citizen other than felons and those with mental problems could and would carry, anywhere. |

a majority of my teachers would rather die at the hands of a crazed student than kill him/her themselves.
