My friend owns two Ruger Redhawk 44 magnums, stainless 7 1/2 inch barrel, he has agreed to me buying it for 400 and I was thinking would it be legal to carry it, would anyone, remember im using a shoulder holster and going to carry it for sheer firepower that is if I decide to get it?

Can you carry in OK at age 18? You're 18, aren't you? Who is going to own the gun, your parents? Yes...such pesky details from the old timers!

Well technicly my uncle owns it but he will be keeping it at my house for a few years: in my dresser for 400, im am going to get my concealed carry but I am also going to go into law enforcement, the point is what I was thinking is if your gonna carry a gun carry a GUN.

Most guns can be effective as long as you know how to use them. There's CCW permits for 18 year olds in OK?

Most LEOs use 9mm. Why don't you try practicing with those with a "supervised adult". It's not about what gun you have. It's about if you know how to be effective with the one you've got.

Yes I know that as my dad is a detective but, I already have a p89 Ruger and I am very accurate and have only owned that pistol for a short amount of time but I would like the extra gun and if it is possible to carry a gun that large and they would let me qualify with it I will buy it from my uncle, as you said try practicing with a supervised adult, I have my whole life: my grandfather was in ww2, my dad is a detective, my grandmother is security at Muskogee High School so I have plenty of supervision and a *ss load of proper safety beyond wht is needed, im not some street thug (gun ignorent) .

just to feel what it is like to carry a cannon all day, sometime when you are going to not be in a public place or somewhere you will get in any trouble, try carrying it around concealed. i think you will find a lighter and smaller gun is what you want. i would still buy it. good price-excellent revolver.

Most LEO's use 40 S&W now.

Point taken. But why so much fire power? Some use 40 S&W but I have seen a bunch using 9mm Glocks.

I have a Glock 40 model 22 and still not the firepower im lookin for, I shot the 44 and the recoil supprisingly was not too bad, the MPD carry's Glock model 22 but you can carry your own if it is approved : above 9mm, and one of the approved brands and double action.

38 is still a great caliber but don't want to take any chances.

Well they have served law enforcement well for decades but todays criminals will take a extra kick at the least a 357 is what I would go with, have any of you seen the video made after the 1986 FBI Murders , the two gunnmen were carrying ruger 223 carbine full auto and a 12 gauge and the majority of the FBI was carrying 9mm Smith&Wesson autos and Tauras 38 revolvers and the gunnmen were so Fu**ed up they took shots and were just getting flesh wounds the name of the movie if your interested is In The Line Of Duty The FBI Murders, since most wouldn't bother to get the movie you can watch it on youtube by typing in 1986 FBI Murders.

from my own personal experience, i used to only carry one of my ,45s, the problem was that some of the time they got left in the truck because of their weight and size. (even the officers mod.) now for normal carry i pack my cz 82 or the makarov if i really need to be discrete and use the .45 when i have the feeling i really might need it. even a small gun is better than the cannon you left in the truck.
