[color=windowtext][font=&quot]Put your car keys beside your bed at night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies.

Be sure to test this with your car before you depend on it. Cars vary greatly as to the range of the remote. I had a 1999 Tahoe that the remote didn't work unless you were within arms reach of the vehicle, but my father-in-law's 2000 Silverado would activate from a block away.

My biggest complaint about the commercial is...

How on earth did they get everything unpack and perfectly decorated in a single day???

Yes I have seen these commercials and I find them less than encouraging an option in the real world. First to be truly effective they have to communicate with the monitoring center instantly and everytime. This is done either through your phone line, cable connection, dedicated line or the best one with a dedicated COMSAT transmitter with an independant power source (CPS=continuous power supply). Unfortunately what MOST folks get is the economodel powered off the houses current with little to no reserve power connected to the phone line. Many years ago I purchased what some here might laughingly refer to as the ANALOG home security system. The system consists of 8 combination Fire/intrusion detection mechanisms and 1 Fire/smoke detector. Now except for the smoke/fire detector these are MECHANICAL devices, that are NOT dependant upon either the electic or phone service remaining uninterrupted in my home. When they are tripped they sound an ear shattering gong that sounds at a measured 145 decibels. While they don't immediately alert the police or fire department they will in fact awaken everyone within 100 yds to a problem as well as me in my bed. Since that time we have added what might be called a secondary system named Dawg, Fergie and Diana in other words a Pitbull mix that has scared the beejeezus out of a friend looking to borrow a BBQ smoker and Dawg has a thunderous bark and when he looks at you you get the distinct impression he is considering the best way to eat you, as well as the 2 Pembroke Welsh Corgies which are both very territorial to the point they go on alert and begin a fuss whenever anyone even so much as pulls into the drive. If they go berserk in the night, or one of the alarms goes off it gives both the intruder pause and me and the missus time to arm and prepare as well as initiate calls to 911 on both house and cell phones. a 12 gauge side by side firing both barrels at the same time makes for a very succinct you're not welcome greeting to an intruder.

Wink Real Life vs Security Systems

#1. ADT is in business to sell security systems and make money.
#2. ADT response times are grossly mis-advertised like all security systems.
#3. Since when has televison commercialism ever been akin to reality?
#4. Two loving, large dogs, and a 12 ga. = best home defense. The police
can write the report.

Nuff said. Retired Pol. Sgt./Master FA instructor & gun fight survivor.

We had a breakin at our house, during the day, while no one was home. I found the door kicked in. I called the police and one was there in minutes. I stayed outside while he swept the house. Dogs must've scared the burglar away.
The next day, ADT was at my door, trying to sell me an alarm system. They got the police reports from each day. Talk about ambulance chasers. I had a different system installed and am happy with it.
If someone kicks in the door, the alarm company takes about 2 minutes to call through. That's fast. And I'm there, waiting for the call, with gun in hand. They're fast, but I'm so much faster.

Guys, it's all about marketing. Those ads are not targeted toward people like us. They're for Sheeple who don't want nasty guns in their house and have expectations of being taken care off by someone else, ie be it the police or an alarm system. It's the same kind of mental imaging that tells people to submit to a thief or attacker rather than resist. How many of you would buy that alarm system based on that commercial? I'd rather have one that I can pet and scratch behind the ears or one that I can clean and oil and then load.

I think the commercials suck and are pretty stupid, but also think a monitored alarm system isn't a bad idea either. Maybe a dog works pretty good too, but it wakes you up if someone breaks in and gives you or your spouse some time to arm up while it rolls the cops too (if the BG hasn't cut the lines) -- there's less of a chance of waking up to a BG sitting on top of you trying to grap la pistola. Kind of a belt and suspenders. Also, if you're gone, it might keep the BG from cracking/stealing your gun safe and stuff -- it's probably going to take more than a few minutes to get your stuff out of the house.

Some insurance companies also reduce your rates making it cost not very much at all.
