So somebody saw my gun.

I was helping out a minister at my church work on his car, while bending over he noticed my handgun peaking out of my waistband. He commented on it, and after a short conversation about my reasons and my license, he ended the conversation by saying "well I guess I don't care as long as its not in the church"

I really didn't know what to say at that point... I've been carrying anytime I'm out since I got my permit. And in my state it's perfectly legal to carry in a church...

Do you guys think I should stop carrying in the church? talk to him about it again? talk to the lead pastor or elders? or should I just stop carrying?

The reason this is somewhat of a dilemma is because my church meets in a less than desirable area, and at times I'm helping out the church until late into the night. But on the flip side I really respect the guy who didn't want me carrying, and I don't want to offend him.

Anyways, if you were in my shoes what would you do.

I would speak with the lead pastor, or whoever is highest in charge. In a public place, I would think they would be the only one to say no to a concealed permit (as long as the local government is ok with it).

I would keep carrying it there. There are such things as church shootings. Just conceal it differently/better.

I think when my new Kel Tec P3AT comes in no one will ever know it's there. (I was carrying a full size .40 at the time, small of the back, inner waist band, not the best when bending over a car hood.)

Not their right to tell you where you can and can't carry. Just hide it better.

I may be wrong, but doesn't the owner of the building have the right to say no CCW's allowed? I mean, nobody is forcing you to go into that church...

In my state the churches are not required to post no cc allowed. They are all off limits. But if your state does not have that requirement Id keep carrying there if you were not told not to.

i agree and disagree with you guys.
i think you should continue to wear your weapon, just find a place of worship that's ok with it.
if you continue to wear it there eventually it will snow ball into a much bigger problem.
you know how people react to views they disagree with, and considering the fact that he is a religious leader do you really wanna have this battle with him in his church?
if it makes him uncomfortable then there has to be others there that share the same view.
i think you should do what you think is best.
just try to think of this from a couple of different perspectives & be prepared to find a new place of worship

Unless the Church posts a sign that meets state regulations proclaiming "No concealed firearms" then continue until they post a sign.

I'd talk to him about it again and ask him if he'd rather have you have it on you or at home if something like what happened in the Denver church ever happened there?

But if you have had a good relationship with him, talk to him about it. If you don't, it will bother you until it gets resolved. But don't expect it to go your way. He feels the way he does otherwise he wouldn't have said what he did...

He was already told not to. The comment as long as it isn't in my church or whatever it was said that...

In my state if the owner of a premise requests that you not carry, sign or no sign, you can't carry. You can be prosecuted for trespassing if you defy the owners wishes... The minister that I talked to is not in anyway the owner/manager/lead pastor...

I think I'll continue to carry more discreetly, as I really don't want to find another community of worship... If opportunity arises, I'll probably talk to him again, or even someone higher up (it's a smaller church and I'm friends with most of the ministers) and see if I can't establish more of an understanding.

But the guy that said "as long as its not in the church", isn't the head guy, if I read right. The head guy needs to make the decision.
BTW, where I go the church body/members decide such things.
When I was a young Cop I didn't carry to church until one of the other churches had a nut shoot 7 people. I started carrying everywhere.

I would do what your heart tells you to do. Which may be is to keep carrying in church.
Though I don't carry in church my CZ 82 is hid in the car...A.H

It's easier to ask forgiveness than permission - especially in church!

Yes I agree in this situation and most, as long as you are not breaking the law it is much easier to beg for forgiveness than it is to ask permission.
