I haven't posted in awhile, but I have been around. I just received word this afternoon that my nephew was killed yesterday before dawn by a single gunshot wound to his chest. He had recently moved from LA to Denver to start a new life and had told me how different it was from California and how friendly everyone was and how happy he was. He was walking by himself when it happened and the murder was witnessed from residents in a nearby third or forth story apartment. It looks like a mugging as his wallet was stolen and he had to be identified by his driver's license finger prints.
This is a senseless, meaningless act of murder, and I couldn't help but tell my brother that if his stepson had been armed maybe he would have stood a fighting chance against his assailant. My brother agreed.
As it is now, this funny, gentle, still young, man is dead and his murderer is still at large with his wallet in hand.
PLEASE, take a moment and think about this and if you live in a state that allows concealed carry, for GODS SAKE, CARRY!!!! Colorado allows concealed carry. So do most other states outside of the Peoples Republic of Illinois, Wisconsin, California and New York. You never know when you might be an innocent victim of crime and once you are dead, it is too late to say "Gee, I should have had a CCW", or for your family to wish that you had one.
My brother and his wife are grieving at this moment as am I at the senseless loss of a family member at the hands of violent crime. If telling about the loss of my nephew will prompt one responsible gun owner to attend a concealed carry class and be willing to carry to save lives, whether it's their own or a loved one, or a complete strangers, then Carl's death wasn't in vain.
Sorry for crawling up on a soap box and running on, but I felt compelled to do this. Don't be a victim, be an advocate.Be safe.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I extend my sincere condolences to you and your nephew's family.
I agree with what you say. It seems the "leaders" in this country have more feelings for the punks and criminals then they do for the victims and their families.
Keep doing the soapbox gig, it just may help to save a life.
Sorry to hear about your families loss. I just started CCW again, there is way too much of this crap going on all over the place. And for a young man to be taken away is just an act of senselessness. Prayers to your loved ones are being sent.......earl
Wow...I am sorry for that to happen. I live in Colorado, and am pursuing my CCW. I wish I could hunt down these bastards for you, I'd gut them like cattle and make them beg for mercy before killing them. I OC when I feel it necessary, as it is legal in Colorado. What area of Denver did this happen in if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks KGunner and to all for your kind words.
Unknown at this time exactly where this happened. I've been trying to do a search of the Denver Post but haven't had much luck with my internet running slowly. My family wasn't in much state to answer detailed questions when they called me with the news. They don't know if he was on his way home from a friend's house, or a night on the town. All they said was that the Denver officials, police and coroners office had been treating them with kindness and compassion, but the killer was still at large. I've always said that God was in a good mood the day he made Colorado. There are good folks there, but every eden has it's snake. I just want people to stand up and refuse to be victims any longer.
'Gunner' what you propose is too good for the b*****d who took my nephew's life. But thanks for the offer.

I am deeply sorry for you loss. My prayers go out to you and your family in this time of grief. Thanks for taking the time to remind us of the power we have as CCW permit holders.
My prayers go out, to you and yours, Redhead, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. May he rise to our Lord, and live in eternal peace. And may those responsible be caught, tried, and roast in hell. Stay on the soapbox, and keep it loud, so folks can hear. We are so tired of losing good kids to these dregs of humanity. May Peace and Calm come to you.
My deepest condolences. I live in Parker, CO, and work in downtown Denver, right in the heart. And I carry all the time. I'm old and fat, with bad knees, so I feel like an easy target. The bastards better beware of the fat old man waddling along in the Hawaiian shirt, might be me and my .45.

I pray for the Lord's solace to be with you and your family.
I shall pass the story along to others. Birmingham has the 3rd most violent crime in the country and yet very few people I know CC on a regular basis. The city leadership can't figure out what to do about it, but the slogan of the range I belong to (FOP Range, Inc) says it all..."Fight crime. Shoot Back"
