Dear Mr President as a Sportsman and a lover of the great outdoors as well as being a vacationer to many of our National Parks.
I wish to plead to you to allow concealed carry in our National Parks. As it is now, an infringement against our 2nd Amendment right.
The purpose of this request is to protect myself and family against wildlife and people who wish to do us harm.
O.K this is what I'd like to post at that website...If anyone will. Please correct any if any mis spelled words and maybe put in better wording for me.
Then I'll copy and paste it and send it.
Thanks for your help...A.H

You get 5000 characters, so punctuation is the only thing I would add. I tweaked your paragraph just a touch, see if this sounds acceptable:
Dear Mr President,
as a Sportsman and a lover of the great outdoors, as well as being a vacationer to many of our National Parks, I wish to plead to you to allow concealed carry in our National Parks. As it stands currently, law abiding citizens are restricted from this right, an obvious infringement against our 2nd Amendment.
The purpose of this request is to regain the ability to protect myself and family against wildlife and people who wish to do us harm.

On it. I'll think up a good letter, then CC it to Harry Reid. So far I've received what seem to be non-stock replies to my letters to his office and he's usually good on this stuff, considering we're in Nevada and all. So chalk up another letter sent.
<edit> Here's mine:
Good day to you sir,
I am writing today regarding a specific issue that concerns myself and numerous individuals that I am acquainted with. Specifically, I am writing to express my opinion regarding the current issue of the concealed-carry of firearms in national parks.
It is my understanding that the process of obtaining a concealed-carry permit for a firearm already involves criminal background checks and, generally speaking, research seems to strongly indicate that the holders of such permits are, in fact, far less likely to commit any firearms-related crimes than the national average. This is unsurprising, considering the additional work and responsibility involved.
I understand the importance of environmental-impact studies where our national parks are concerned. The environment is a subject I also feel strongly about and do applaud efforts by the federal government to enact reasonable legislation to help protect and maintain our biodiversity as well as clear air and water.
However, I cannot imagine the simple carrying of an item that the holder is already legally "vetted" to carry will have much of an effect. To me, it is a matter of someone who has already been thoroughly checked and tested being allowed to continue to exercise this right (to bear arms) and "privilege" (to carry it in a concealed fashion).
While animal attacks in our national parks are not common, if a citizen has already proven they are responsible enough to carry a firearm concealed, then it is my firm belief that they should be allowed this same protection against the odd chance of an encounter with dangerous wildlife, should such a situation arise.
I ask you to please consider this issue from the perspective of simply allowing the existing controls to operate as they should, regardless of the location.
I thank you,
- Coeloptera

Coeloptera, that is a GREAT letter!
By the way, I learned on another forum that if you go to NRA-ILA :: Action Center
you can put in your zip code, type your letter and email a very professional looking email to the President, your Senators and your Representative all at the same time.
It is connected with the NRA ILA Action website, but it does not have to be gun related and you don't have to be a member.
I think there is also an option to print the letters rather than email them if you prefer.

| Total emails sent is now 59! New Information: Why should you do this? Why should you care? Here are a few key facts. The NPS (National Park System) controls a total of 84.6 million acres of land. 8,505 Monuments and Statues 680 Water Treatment and Wastewater Collection Systems 5,300 Family Housing Units 505 Dams 1,804 Bridges and Tunnels 7,580 Buildings 8,500 Miles of roads and parkways 12,250 Miles of Unpaved Trails ...and that is just a partial list. For a complete list go to: U.S. National Park Service Quick Facts This is nothing more than an underhanded dirty trick by the Brady Commission to put 3.6%, yes that's 3.6% of the entire United States off limits, in addition to making it so difficult in some areas that you just wouldn't be able to do it without committing a felony. Thanks for your help! Smity |

| Hey!! As of this time yesterday we had just barely over a dozen email letters from G&G members to the White House, and the total from all forums was … just 60? Look, this anti-Second Amendment administration “wants” gun owners to lurk and cower in the shadows. It gives their argument against us a perceived credibility in the eyes of the undecided and uninformed. I'm asking every G&G member who hasn't done so already, firmly but politely, to get that email out and then share it with the forum. To do so will encourage others to do the same. The White House email link is below. Thanks everybody. www.whitehouse.gov |

Total is now 67. Working on forum #9.
Just a reminder that I am now recommending that you use the NRA-ILA email tool ( NRA-ILA :: Action Center ). You type once and it creates multiple emails to the President, both Senators and your Representative instead of Welcome to the White House -- or you can do what I did and send it both ways
Don't be discouraged if the response is slow, as long as the total keeps going up. Slow and steady works! I am very impressed with the people on this forum. The posts have been thoughtful and professional. Not all forums are like that, you guys are very lucky.

Movin' right along!
Come on folks, it only takes a couple of minutes, and if a dinosaur like me can do it, all you young folks can do it in half the time! I don't have that many years left, but many of you have your lives ahead of you, so this is much more important for ya'll!

| O.K. Smity. I wrote again; this time to the White House, the Senate, and the House of Representatives via NRA-ILA. This is a copy of what I sent: [QUOTE] As a former law enforcement officer, veteran of the Iraq War, and present teacher, it is my opinion, and I am certain the opinion of the majority of Americans, that there are too many worthless gun laws that disarm and endanger the community. I am asking that the so-called Assault Weapons Ban not be reinstated under any circumstances. I am also requesting that the concealed carrying of firearms be allowed and expanded in federal parks and national forests without delay.
Further, I specifically request that the Second Amendment rights of Americans no longer be further infringed upon by the Administration through the administrative actions of the Justice Department or other federal agencies, or the Congress through legislative action. Under no circumstances initiate, or be complacent with, any infringement on the right to keep and bear arms or tolerate any misinterpretation of the Second Amendment. Please be diligent about this, and all other constitutional issues. Thank you. [END QUOTE] |

Thank you SightnSqueeze and Seabeescotty!
Total number of people who have sent emails is now 74.
If you notice, I have changed the reporting from number of emails to number of people who sent emails. Many are reporting back as having sent multiple emails -- the President, 2 Senators and 1 Representative (one way to do this is with the NRA-ILA email tool at NRA-ILA :: Action Center). Since I can't go back find out who sent multiple emails, I will now report as # of people instead. The total number of actual emails sent is definitely in the hundreds.
Great job everyone!

I am humbled to report that the total number of people who have sent emails is now 83, many of whom have sent up to 4 emails to multiple elected officials. This means that hundreds of emails have been sent.
Thanks for the fantastic response.
I will continue to post the totals as long as they keep going up.
