O.K. so I started to sand off the paint from my M.B.Enhancer today. I cannot see a welded post on it anywhere. I only did a 1/2 inch bare spot on the bottom side of the MBE. No Post. Does this mean it is only soldered? I will sand off the rest of the paint around it to make sure but I doI have the ability to de-solder it so I will try. just wanted some more input on getting this thing off. I got a flash suppressor yesterday and I really want to install it. anybody ever done this before? I'll let yall know.
Check out my ladies new contacts. with shroud. its a cheap 40 dollar GREEN dot sight I got at a gun show but it works (so far only to about a hundred yards or so.)
isn't she mean?

Okay, I hate to say this, but I can see the post and weld-over "plain as day" in that second picture. It's probably because I'm used to looking for the slight discoloration. The welded section is a little bit lighter color and I've circled it with a green circle in an attachment for you so you can look at the original and see exactly what I'm talking about.
I love the new optic... the shroud looks like she's in mourning. Did someone close pass away?...

Mourning all those poor poor AR owners with their sad .223's.
I don't see the same thing and a second pair of eyes doesn't see it either.
I'll get some acetone or something and try to remove all the paint. If I can identify it I'll drill it out.
A guy on another forum told me to get the post out and gently "break" the solder, sounds a little crazy to me? Thanks again for the assistance. I'll let you know.

I couldn't see it at normal screen size either. I had to zoom to the full 100% (it's a huge picture, about four screens-worth) and then you can make out the faint outline of a circle.
Once you get both your pic and mine set to "100% Zoom", switch between the two and look from the green circle to the unmarked pic... it should become apparent. Somehow, with all the bad welding CAI did on these, they somehow pulled some skill out of thin air to weld and grind these things almost to invisibility.
As for breaking the solder, I've read stories where guys tried to do that and they buggered it up so badly that they had to cut off the end of the barrel and go with no muzzle attachment. First hit it with some penetrating oil or WD-40 and let it soak, then see if it will screw off with firm pressure. If not then try some gentle heating of the muzzle break, not the barrel, as if you get the barrel too hot, you may damage the crystalline structure of the metal and make it soft and/or unsafe. Then with the break nice and warm, try to get the break off. I have heard of people using Phillips-head screwdrivers as levers in the ports to get leverage and I could see that working well, especially with a hot break, but you'd have to police yourself and not go overboard with the pressure... if it's not coming, don't force it.

P.S. Thats the same bi-pod I bought. Want another? I'll trade for a flash supressor.

Yo Don, that's the Muzzle break we've been discussing.
I got a suppressor online for 20.00 with a bayonet lug and a cleaning kit cylinder. Makarov.com On-Line Shopping Cart the flash suppressor is about five posts from the bottom.($12.00)
I am going to grind on her tomorrow morning and see how it goes. I'v got access to a mapp gas torch, flux, and silver solder so I should be good for all needs to get this sucker off and get my F.S. on easily. Thanks for the advice JAC your the man as usual. will post pics for sure.
P.S. don't buy acetone to get that "parkerization" off, it doesn't work so well. But I also don't know what would so...... I sanded it off, in turn making it harder for me to identify the illusive post. Live and learn right.

I ground down the spot you identified in the picture and this is what I got...
I stopped tonight after I thought I had reached a hole/gap between the break and threads. but I think it's just an air bubble. That said I think I am grinding on the weld even though I cannot see anything identifying it specifically. JAC if you could take a look at my progress and tell me what you think that would be helpful.
I will try to break it free tomarrow when I feel the post is gone. I will heat the break with mapp gas and try the screwdriver it the holes to release it. crossing my fingers the whole time of course. |

ALL I have to say is wow, oh yeah, and damn she looks good.
Turns out I was on track the whole time but followed the misadvice of a different forum . it took me about 2 hours to do this dammage with a combo dremel, and a metal file. I eventually searched every where for a picture of the pin. I found excellence. The FAL Files Forums
if you want to do this it is easy. use metal file on edge to grind into the 6'o clock of the break about 1/4 inch from the bottom. Grind till you think your going to hit barrel. youshould be able to see the pin. It is the size of a primer on your .308 bullets. Then break out the dremmel tool with diamond plate wheels and grinding fitting(mine looks like a club). Grind that sucker down till your sure its clear of the break. it has been recommended that you leave the remnants of the pin in if it is not falling out. then heat the break with mapp gas gently. discontinue heat and place a strong bar or screwdriver(don't use your best one) through the holes in the break. turn counter clockwise hard. don't use long hard pressure, use short bursts to break to POS loose. it should go. I had a friend holding the rifleon a table. then your home free. I attempted to solder the new flashhider on but didn't get theflux to draw it in. I later considered the possibility of oter things that screw on to barrels. licenses also considered. so I don't know, maybe a small amount of locktite will do the trick.
Anyways, Thanks to everyone for the help and putting up with me. Enjoy the pics. HELL YEAH. |

Enscribe, that looks awesome!
Interesting method you describe there... I seem to remember reading it somewhere... *thinks up a little further* ... oh, right, I wrote it in post #64. Hehe.
I've still got my MB on mine. Let us know how she shoots, especially any difference in both recoil and muzzleblast/noise.
Oh, and not to stroke my own ego... well, okay, it is to do just that... But, that's exactly where I put the green circle.

Ya I saw the pin after a little squinting and stuff. and yes it was where the green circle was. the confusing part is that during grinding you get a little freaked out ( "I" got freaked out) b/c you can't always tell that its there. I also was enlisting help from another forum and it was all wrong. (that's why the whole bottom side of the break is ground down). All I really needed were pictures to assure myself and I found them aflter some searching. Just an Awesome Car you were the voice of reason
as always.
on a side note: hows WA state JAC? I'm headed to Seattle on Saturday so my girl can look at U.W. for her second masters. I will most likely end up living there in August. What are the gun laws like( do you know of a source that I may read?) Where do you go shoot?

WA is great. I've lived here since birth, but I've traveled everywhere in this country except for the South. I like the temperate climate and the accepting nature of most people here. Now, admittedly, if you talk East WA versus West WA, it's almost like two different states, but I'll stick to W. WA as that's were I'm from and that's where you're talking about.
As for gun laws, we're surprisingly one of the best in the nation. Open carry is legal (though some PD's are unaware of this fact) and we were one of, if not the, first states in the nation to have "Shall Issue" CPL's (Concealed Pistol License), which means if they can't find any reason within the 30 days (residents, 60 for non-residents) they MUST BY LAW issue your license.
For more on Open Carry and lots of other laws, come say hi over on the OpenCarry.org WA Forum, I use the same username over there also. If you're going to be around for Sunday, we're having our monthly get-together in Tacoma (30 mins South of Seattle), there's a thread I started on it on the forums with directions and such. I'd love to meet ya!
The UW is a great place, I'm currently registered as a graduating senior and set to graduate on August 22nd of this year with my bachelor's in chemistry. What's interesting is that they have a student code of conduct that says that one form of misconduct is "possession of firearms", but further down in that section, they say "Nothing herein shall be construed to deny students their legally and/or constitutionally protected rights." The best part about that?... Our constitution has already dealt with the "individual right" issue that's going on in Washington D.C. in Article 1 Section 24: | RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS. The right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself, or the state, shall not be impaired, but nothing in this section shall be construed as authorizing individuals or corporations to organize, maintain or employ an armed body of men.
As for where I go shoot, there's quite a few indoor ranges around (go figure, Seattle needing indoor ranges *chuckle*) but they're mostly 25 yard pistol ranges. I let my membership expire at one I was going to in Everett (30 mins North of Seattle) and have been looking at just going to some out-of-the-way areas where it's legal to shoot either up in the mountains or in the boonies.
If you get a chance feel free to give me a call and we can meet up for coffee, I'll send you my cell number in a PM.

Here is my Cetme. I've not added anything to her. I lost my spreadsheet that had all my ammo related stuff on it so I don't know the exact number of rounds thru her. Probably less then 100. And yes, these pictures are old. |

in that case I can't wait to be a Wa resident! Thanks for all the info JAC. I didn't get a chance to call you so we'll have to meet up later on.
I really enjoyed Seattle and was imoressed by the people I met and talked to so Wa here I come.
Went shooting on 5.23.08 and had a great time withthe new flash suppressor. I don't know if my solder stuck but it didn't become a projectile and I can't twist it off with my hand so alls well. shot about 80 rnds through her and had perfect perfomance except two of my mag springs are bad. Is it just me or are they not selling those on that site anymore?
I have just ordered some new treats for her to make her look as mean as her bite! Does anyone know where to find the tri rail foregaurd? I want one but they all seem to be sold or dicontinued?
Anyway I'll load the pic when I get my new "stuff."

Some 'smith down in Texas kindly offered to install a flash hider on my CETME for about $225, but I declined. I think the rifle was only about three hundred or so.
