| First CMP Match
I'm shooting in my first CMP match this Sunday at my local club. Although I have a couple Garands, I've decided to shoot one of my M1 Carbines in the match.. I really don't have a fricken clue as to what to expect, either.. ![]() The guy who's in charge of the match told me to bring 60 or so rounds of ammo, a rug, a jacket, a glove, and $10 for the shoot (which goes to CMP, if I'm not mistaken) Anyway, I've read through the rules for a CMP shoot on the CMP website, but most are for National shoots.. Just wondered what I should expect?? I plan on taking photos during the match and hope to post what I saw and found, in a couple days.. Any other suggestions??

| I know.. I thought about that.. I'm mostly after learning about the game, the rules, and having fun during my first match, which is why I'm taking the Carbine. I'll post my results and photos of my targets.. I really thought about shooting my Swedish Mauser.. I'm very accurate with it, although I know I'd be at a slight dissadvantage with a bolt gun, even though I'd get an extra 10 seconds with the rapid fire portion. Like I said, this first one's a learning experience.. And, since I've been shooting my Carbine a fair amount lately (50 rounds through it tonight) I'm pretty comfortable with it, and I shoot it pretty well.. I guess I'll find out how well by noon on Sunday.. (match starts at 8 am)

Good luck my friend. I wish I could come if to just give you some support. Kind of a drive and one I'd have to plan ahead for. Just go into it as you are, not expecting much and ask questions when you have time and watch and learn and pick up as much as you can. I think I'd bring more then 60rds. of ammo though. JIC main bring 100 or 150, you just never know. Can;t hurt anyhow can it? I mean, I don't know if they only let you enter the grounds with so many ya' know? Maybe go to you tube and search for some videos in the meantime and see what you can find/see that way? Who knows, might learn something? Again, it can't hurt to look? Again, good luck...It do sound like a great time...

) I'm really after the experience and I hope I don't irritate others with questions. This is the last match of the year for the club, but I'm already looking forward to the matches next year, and I haven't even done one yet. ![]() Report to follow!!!

I completed in my first CMP match today and I have to say I can see how it's addictive!! The total group was around 18 shooters, and I was set up on the first relay of 12 shooters. Of the 12, most were shooting Garands, with myself and the guy next to me shooting Carbines, one guy shooting an AR, and one guy shooting a 1903A3.. I was concerned mostly about the rapid fire shooting, but that was actually nothing to be concerned about. Even with a bolt gun and some stripper clips, it would be pretty easy to get done in the alloted time. I ended up shooting a 411, out of 500 with the Carbine, with my worst being the 10 round standing round, and my best being the 10 round prone rapid fire. I did end up with one X during the shoot, and my only "miss" was about 1/2" off the 5 ring during the standing shoot. It was very relaxed, but very safe when it came to safety, and the range captain was more than happy to give me quick instruction as to what was next.. The day was almost perfect, with it being in the 60's for temps and only a slight breeze, and no sun to make for squinting while shooting. ![]() Here's a few photos of the shoot.. This is the meeting before the shoot, going over rules.. ![]() Here's of the firing line.. The gentleman on the Rascal was shooting the AR, and he shoot very well!! He can't stand up straight, or lay down, so his shooting was all from the a chair on the line.. Very good guy, and full of info if asked.. ![]() My best target, being the 10 shot prone rapid fire. That darned 7 ring stopped it from being a something extra proud of.. ![]() ![]() When it was done, several of the guys mentioned to me that ANY shot at 100 yards that actually scored on paper was very, very good for a carbine.. It helped my attitude greatly, although shooting a 430 and getting a medal would have helped more.. That said, and as Mooseman pointed out, the Carbine was a handicap for an event like this. I know I shoot better than this, but on the other hand it was a BLAST to shoot the event and learn the game.. NEXT year, I'll not be afraid to shoot a bolt gun.. I know I could have shot an easy 450 with either of my Swedish mausers, and to tell you the truth, I feel I could have Medal'd today with a Mosin..I'll be back!!!

Way to go Paper. I'm sure next year will be better just with the fact you got any jitters you may have had out of the way as well as just the fact you'll have experienced how things are done. Good shootin' bud.

Thanks GM and Rich!! It really was fun, and I did have a case of jitters when it came to the first round, which was 20 rounds prone, slow fire.. I should have shot better during those 20 rounds, which were really the easiest.. Too many 6's and 7's that should have easily been 9's and 10's.. Oh well, it was fun, and my comfort level at the end of the match, or even half way through the match was WAY higher than those first 20 shots. I'm just wondering one thing?? I know how bad the muzzle blast is from the guy shooting a Garand right next to me was.. I'm wondering how bad it'd be for a guy next to me if I were shooting a M44 or M38 Mosin?? Hee hee!!!

Not too bad Paper, not too bad at all.You could have had a tighter shot group.Myself I'm certain I'd have been inside the 10 circle, with either my MK1 or my M38.Like i've said from the start it's not the D--n M1 and it never was. it's the guy shooting it
