First CMP shoot!

Yesterday, I participated in my first CMP event. The taught a basics class first then we went to the range to shoot. It was cruddy weather but the rain stopped just long enough for us to shoot. I had only shot an M1 once in my life before this event so it was a true learning experience. My Score? Not purty. I learned that big bellies and the sitting position do not mix well. LOL! Going to try it kneeling next time. I also learned that the standing slow fire event gives way more time than one needs to shoot and it is best to slow down. I hurried at first and nothing hit the black. Then after I fired 6 shots 5 on paper the range officier yelled "7 minutes left!" So, I slowed down, took my time and put three of the last four in the black with one X.

All in all I learned that the people who shoot CMP are a great bunch of guys! They helped me learn a lot about shooting and the M1 and I can not wait to get out there again and shoot!!! OK, score...367 Next time will be better!

So do you have an M1, or did they provide it?

I borrowed an M1 from one of the club members. They have 4 rifles available for loan. I am planning a trip to the CMP store this summer and am looking for a rifle locally as well. Gannie that shoot was so much fun! you gotta come up and shoot in one! They will let you shoot 03s, 03a3s, ENfields, Mosins etc in the vintage rifle competition. WWWAAAYYY too much fun!

Would they allow a Canadian to shoot in one of those competitions? I've been searching up here but have found nothing
