Hmmmm..

I have a beautiful Colt Detective Special.. If I put the pistol in the box with the rifle, and leave them alone for a while, do you think there's a chance of me getting more Colts..

Shoot It

I have enjoyed deer hunting with my 30-06 Colt Light Rifle for years. It is a great hunting gun and should be used! That is my opinion. I like to carry it and the trigger is just right for hunting. It is very accurate, so I am confident with the shots I take. It is much more fun to use than to look at, because it will not win any beauty contests. Let me know what you decide.

I agree, it won't win any beauty contests. Black rifle, black everything. I decided a long time ago for a gun to be something I can actually have feelings for, it has to have something on it that was alive at one time. It's why I really appreciate nice wooden stock guns..

But, since this thing's new and I don't have to shoot it, I'm going to leave it in this condition. I sorta look at it as I can leave it unfired, and I can always fire it if I want to..

As it stands, I have 5 Mausers on the way to me, a M1 Carbine, and I haven't got the ammo for my 5mm Rem Mag, yet.. I'll try to get those shot first. (since they're all older guns, the first shot's already done)

I feel I got a decent deal on it as the Blue Book has it listed at $675 in this condition, and I picked it up for $450. It's in absolute perfect condition, as expected for a new rifle.

Not a lot were made by Saco for Colt when you compare numbers of other rifles, and I feel it'll go up in value..

I don't "need" another rifle to shoot, but part of me wants to slap a scope on it and enjoy this rifle...

Thoughts on this rifle?
Here's my thoughts on the issue of whether to shoot or store. The rifle was obviously made to shoot....no "AA" grade walnut or high polish blue to be found. The design and name didn't cause a big stir in the rifle "world" the fact it was discontinued so quickly proves that. Please note I didn't say it wasn't a good rifle, simply that it was built to be a shooter and that's just what I'd do. I feel rifles are like cars, built to shoot, as cars are built to be driven. If you won't drive your car because it's too "collectible" why own it?? If you won't shoot a rifle that was obviously built to use rather than look at, why have it. Of course, this from a fella who purchased a 100% pre '64 mod 70 Featherweight in .308 and has fired it. Because, that's what you're supposed to do with a well made, well designed rifle. My two cents, likely woth less. By the way, even fired, this Featherweight has risen in value, so I am VERY sure I made the right decision to enjoy using as well as looking.
