| The gun Colt would have liked to have seen replace the 1911

I bet Jeff Cooper had some choice words about that monstrosity replacing the 1911.

Interesting concept - for keeping the bad guys' heads down. Not so good for what a pistol is supposed to do - save you at short ranges with 1 shot stops. I definitely feel that while it's an interesting gun, it could not have replaced the M1911A1. I mean, look at what's happening in Iraq now. The Beretta 92F/M9 has been shown to lack stopping power despite the manufacturer's claim that ballistically it's the equal of the good old .45. The manufacturer isn't even lying - quite. IF (and it's the thing Beretta carefully does not discuss in public) you load it with +P hollowpoints, yes, the M9 can on paper equal the hitting power of the M1911A1 firing 230 grain FMJ. But the military can't use +P hollowpoints. It's against the Geneva Convention. Shoot it with the 124 grain FMJs the Army uses, and the M9's performance falls way short of John Browning's masterpiece. The US Army had to relearn the lessons it first learned in the Philippines: that you need a man-stopper round in your pistol, and nothing in the 9mm family that it's legal for them to load comes up to snuff (pun intended). Honestly, I think our troops would be better off with some sort of double-stack .45 ACP than with any 9mm pistol on the market today. Why the morons at DOD just bought another 125,000 inadequate M9s mystifies me. |

| Picture if you will, the ugliest handgun ever designed. It makes the Bochart look pretty!!! I'm sure Col. Sam Colt was rolling over in his grave.

Looks like some kind of weird carpenter's tool, like a nail gun gone wrong.
