| Registered User | US Army Colt DA 38 Model 1903 Many years ago I was given a Colt DA 38 by a woman whoes husband had passed away. As far as I know it was her husbands service revoler. The serial No. is 207319 and it has RAC stamped on the frame and on wood grip. Any idea on how old it might be and of any value ? |

| Senior Member | Is that in .38 long colt? If so, that gun has historical significance. I'm pretty sure that's the model that the U.S. Army replaced the Single Action Army with. During the Phillipene Insurrection the Moro's would attack our soldiers with barongs (a horribly efficient little sword) and wrap themselves in wire to make themselves less vulnerable to gunfire. The new revolvers in .38 long colt simply did not have the stopping power necessary to stop them before they hacked some poor soldier to pieces so the revolvers were withdrawn and the SAA in .45 long colt was re-issued. The army had better luck with the big .45, and largely because of this the Army began trials for a more powerful modern handgun and the Colt model 1911 was developed and accepted, and the rest is history. Just a little cool Colt f.y.i.. |
