Question Colt or Kimber?

My next 1911 will be a carry piece and have looked at both manufactures as to what is offered. I am one of those that after modifying my Springfield I have just as much money tied up as if I would have started with eithier manufacture. both have great qualities and believe me for a old man i get almost s--ually excited over the thought. This will draw lines amongst you loyalist but I would like to hear from those in the know which manufacture to run with. Thanks

I have owned Colts since 1983. My dad has had Colts around the house since i was about 17. I shot Kimbers before and liked them very much. Colt on the other hand with my track record is the first choice. The Colt foremost will not lose value. I have everything from the series70 to 80 Commander to Defender to Lightweight Commander and everything in between. I even have two Delta Elites in 10mm. I have carried them for years and I have trusted my life with them. None(thats right I said none) have ever jammed on me. The only problems I have ever had with a Colt was one time the slidestop broke and the pistol wouldn't stay open on the last shot. The other time I was shooting a friend's reloads and one squib load (primer only no powder) went off and the bullet was stuck in the barrel. A wooden stick knocked that out(not the guns fault but still considered a problem). This track record is the sum of about ten pistols over a 25 year period. Colt is the way to go. I can't say enough good about them and the hoopla you usually hear about the others is usually by someone who : A. Doesn't know any better, B. Never owned a Colt. or C sits on their brains.

Both are great guns but I would go Colt. Wouldn't you like a 1911 that was made by a company making guns in 1911? The good guys probably had a Colt in hand when The West Was Won.

can't take anything away from a colt for sure. I chose Kimber for at least the moment which is always subject to change, I feel they have a greater understanding of the American shooter & work very hard to earn the business. Colt has seemed to be riding on the name and giving it the ole if you don't like it, tough attitude. They do have nice equipment though.

Thanks for the input will let you know what the choice is, still cannot decide, i do like the feel of the Kimber carry but do not like all the feedback on jams break in and limited hollow point ammo. you would think that when spending that kind of money all you should be doing is smilling everytime you blow "money"

Never owned a Kimber but I look at them every time I stop by the local fun shop. I guess it's mainly the price that keeps me from buying one when coupled with the issues I hear folks are having. Seems like those issues would be more common in a $300 pistol and not a Kimber. Anyway, my best .45 acp at the moment is the Colt Defender and it is not for sale.
