| Rimfire Benchrest Like to shoot the rimfire? The ammo is cheap and you can shoot a LOT for a lot less then CF. If you live in an area that does not have an active shooting club, and you are interested in "getting into" some form of match competition: How about benchrest matches with your rimfire rifle. Everybody has at least one rimfire: Right? The Benchrest Rimfire E-Mail Matches started in January of 2001. We now have shooters from 34 States shooting in our matches and we are recruiting State Teams. These are fun matches. We have no entry fees and no awards. Just the opportunity to shoot and compare scores with shooters from all over the country. We use a performance classification system like the NRA. No equipment classes. You shoot into a class based on a combination of the accuracy of your rifle and your marksmanship skills. We say: "Climb the Class Ladder". If you have an interest in the .22: Look over these rules. If this grabs your interest, I have some other information on how the State Team Match works. We use the USBR target, and I have a couple of graphics I could send you that describe the target and how it is scores with the NRA scoring gauge. Joe Haller - hallemac@aol.com ------------------------------------- The Basic E-Mail Match Rules ------------------------------------- Equipment Restrictions: (Not many) Ammunition must be .22 rimfire. .22 short, long, long rifle. Rimfire magnums in .17 and .22 caliber may be used in the 50 yard match, but not the 25 yard match. No limit on rifle weight. Pistols are allowed. Triggers may be adjusted to a light pull, but must be safe. No restrictions on scope power. Some shooters are using iron sights at 25 yards and doing well. (At 50 yards you will think you have gone blind) Shoot over sandbags, shot bags, rice bags or any old bag. Use a tripod or bipod front rest. A bunny ear rear sandbag is recommended. Shoot from benchrest or prone with a sling. Shoot over a log or the hood of your truck if you want. One piece rests are allowed. BUT: No rest attached to the bench or capable of "return to battery" would be allowed. Target, Distance & Time Limits: The official United States Bench Rest (USBR) target is used. Targets may be obtained from Tom Guerin: E-Mail: guerinth@aol.com. A 25 yard and a 50 yard match is shot each month. (Both shot on the same target) Each shooter will assume responsibility for accurate measurement of the distance, from the front edge of the bench or firing line to the face of the target. A maximum of 20 minutes is allowed to fire all sighter shots and one shot at each of the 25 record bulls. Matches will be shot outdoors during Spring, Summer and Fall. December, January, February and March matches may be shot on indoor 25 yard ranges. Scoring: Score your own target, with the aid of a second person who will check for accuracy. You can get an instruction graphic on how to score the USBR target from Joe Haller: hallermac@aol.com. You can order a scoring gauge from NRA. Call 1 (800) 336-7402. Ask for scoring gauge #17230: 22 caliber. If you are shooting the .17 caliber you should ask for scoring gauge #17319. 4 bucks plus postage. Have your credit card handy. More Than One Rifle?: You may shoot more than one rifle (or pistol). Not more than 4 targets per month with each gun. Report only the highest score of four targets. with each rifle or pistol. You don't HAVE to shoot four targets: Just no more than four each month. An exception is the Buck-A-Box Match. You may shoot up to four more targets with the same rifle, using ammo that cost no more than $1.00 per box of 50. (See the Buck-A-Box Rules.) Performance Classes: Your score will establish your class. These are fun matches to see how high we and our rifles can climb up the class ladder. If you shoot more than one rifle (or pistol) you will be given a class for each. No awards, not entry fees. Just FUN. Class scores are listed below. "Climb The Class Ladder" If and when some shooters start punching out near perfect scores, we can consider adding a High Master Class as NRA has done. ---------------------------- 25 Yard Performance Classes Master 250 Expert 248 - 249 SharpShooter 245 - 247 Marksman 235 - 244 Hunter 220 - 234 Plinker 200 - 219 OrangeBlaster 000 - 199 ---------------------------- 50 Yard Performance Classes Master 240 - 250 Expert 230 - 239 SharpShooter 220 - 229 Marksman 210 - 219 Hunter 200 - 209 Plinker 180 - 199 OrangeBlaster 000 - 179 ------------------------------------------------ Computers & the Internet: You should have access to a computer and the Internet, to send scores and receive score bulletins. Get your shooting friends involved. They don't have to have a computers. You just have to report their scores for them. And: Print out a copy of the score bulletin for them. Score Bulletin: At the end of each month a summary of the scores will be sent by e-mail to each person who has submitted an e-mail address to Joe Haller. A complete score bulletin will be posted on the Rimfire Central website, under the "On Line Match" forum: http://www.rimfirecentral.com/mainsite.htm Deadlines: Send scores so they are received by the last day of the month.
