My brother is a SASS member and shoots with them. He is in a wheel chair and the guys he shoots with fall over backwards to help him shoot. At first he met a couple guys who would let him borrow their firearms as long as he brought the ammo. Shooting with those guys has done wonders for his morale! No, he can not shoot like they can but no one cares. He is one of the guys and that is great for him.

Went to my first shoot. Multi-state champion let me use his Ruger Blackhawks (had '92 Rossi and SxS). They bent over backwards to help me get through the first shoot. I'll be back, that's for sure.

Now your talking billy.I love silhouette either handgun or rifle and both rimfire and big bore.I makes you sharp with both and helps you judge distances better. Also teaches you a hell of a lot about your sights and wind.

I think C/F is easier.Even if its targets are further out.

CAS Shooting

Howdy,

I have been doing CAS for about 10 years. Don't plan on winning anything, just there for a good time and comradirie. Don't keep score and don't care. I shoot Ruger Vaquero Bisleys, 5.5" barrels, 2- in .357 & 2- in .45LC. I have an original 1892 Winny, 38/40 and a new Rossi, in .45LC. I have an Original 1878 Colt SXS shotgun, 12 gauge, an Intrac 1878 SXS, 12 gauge, and an original 1897 Winny, 12 gauge. Depending on how I feel and the stage setting, I chose the guns. I chose the caliber before I start out. Should any fail during the course of shooting, I have something to fall back on. Been thinking about going to a different catagory of the "Wild Bunch", using 1911's and '97 shotguns, and the winny '92. Got to get a new costume, tho. Maybe Military, have't decided yet.

I've been shooting CAS for over 11 years now. I don't try to compete with the 'gamers', that's the guys that go for super light loads and use every trick to shave seconds. I shoot Colt clones with loads equal to the .45 Gov't load. I use Rem Dove loads in my SXS.
I highly reccomend not buying guns and showing up at a local shoot. Just take 2 boxes of a lead target load that will work in a .45 or .38, the two most popular calibers used. Also one box of Rem Dove loads, 12 ga or 20 ga. Folks will nearly force guns on you. Shoot as many different types as you can then decide what you want. You'll find that shooters have guns they're turning all the time.
I used to shoot pretty good but time and wear and tear have cut my scores. I still enjoy myself and that's the main deal.
As a Cop I can tell ya that it's possible to learn way more about real combat shooting from CAS than most other types of shooting. IF you learn to use both hands, learn to move and learn to engage multiple targets at real combat ranges what more do you need.

man that looks fun! I probably won't get to it anytime soon as I have my hands full w/ trying to find time to shoot after chores. But I did find a nice little link for you, SB. Go to: Gun Show On The Net.com - Cowboy Action M-Z Page
for a list of clubs in the US by state. The clubs have some great links for classifieds and instruction too.
