| This May Save You Real Cowboys A Little $ I was reading one of the books Teddy Roosevelt wrote and he mentioned giving his pony a cracker for a treat. I just learned that Emmett Dalton, my Shire, likes Captian's Wafers. I do to so they'er always on hand.

| You know we, or I, often miss the obvious. No telling how much I've spent on store bought treats, apples and carrots and such.

| They like sugar cubes too. Most horses love apples but I had one that wouldn't touch them. He'd take you down for a carrot but wouldn't touch apples.

| Member | Give my horse a pinch of copenhagen every so often, he chews it around a little then swallows it lol. But a little bowl of sugur really gets him tickled. Every time i go catch him i give him a little dab of oats, starts things off nice. |

| Emmett won't take anything without getting to smell it first. If I rub salt or sugar on his teeth he'll take it but not in any other way. He won't tell me why??? JSYK, he was a one time starved down real bad and was rescued off of a truck taking him to slaughter. He was not very trusting when I got him.

| I'm often away from my horses for long periods since they are about 50 mi. from where I live but never have trouble catching them because of the treats I always have.I think it's rather dumb to chase them when I can get them to chase me. sam. |

| Senior Member | I always carry soft peppermint(sugar candy) in my pockets when I'm working at the farm. Our mules and ponies will follow me wherever I go.

| I used to have a little girlfriend whose pony loved hamburgers. That danged horse would follow you around pushing you until he got a hamburger too.

| My wife has a 2yr old Percheron born on the farm (talk abt a dumb plow horse) will eat anything you hand feed it. Never tried a burger Maybe at our labor day feast, it's our turn for a BBQ. Cook on the grill all summer just not extra food and Sundays we all draw lots for the "pleasure" of holding a BBQ, I drew labor day this year.My family of 11 adults and the 2 grand kids 2 and 4. and 5 other Families abt 16 Adults (over 6) and 5 more babies. The dogs love it.
