| Cold Queso Rides Again Went to my first cowboy shoot - a big match with over 60 shooters, 6 stages, and 4 posses. My guns are a Rossi 357, Vaquero 357, Cimarron 1851 Richards/Mason conversion in 38, and a Chinese double barrel. The cimarron conversion got alot of attention - only non SAA at the event. The rifle and pistol portions of all stages went well, the shotgun really slowed me down. Need more practice and I might move to a 1913 vintage 97 winchester in 16g. It's amazing to watch little old ladies kick your a** with these olds guns! |

| Senior Member | How did that conversion shoot? I've been thinking about getting one for my .44 cal '51 navy. If I can find one.

| Don't give up on that SxS. Looks are a bonus. Also look at the different classes. How you shoot matters too.

| Mine's not an R&D cylinder - it's manufactured as the Richards/Mason conversions of the 1860's. The conversion shoots really good but I had to get a taller front sight - shooting about 1 foot high at 50 feet! Also, I had to chamfer the cylinders as they were cut straight and tight - making it hard to load. Here is some info on it. http://www.cimarron-firearms.com/Con...ConvOpener.htm I think the SxS will suit me well. I'm going to get a shotshell belt, polish the chambers, and I stoned the action so it opens/closes easier. Last edited by cold queso; 07-21-2008 at 03:52 PM. |

| cold queso, I meant to mention that Remington Factory Shells seem to work better in SXS. They're real slick and load and fall out much better than other shells. At Academy they're real cheap too.

| Smooth sided shells like Remington STS or Winchester AA's work better than ribbed ones. Polishing your chambers should be all you need to do but if they still don't fall out easily you can spray them with ArmorAll.

| thanks for the shotshell advice. I didn't bring a full box of AAs, and finished with some Winchester Xpert. The AAs fell out nice and smooth, but the Xperts stuck. I'll stick with AAs from here on out since I reload them anyway. (Armor-All? great idea!) |
