Where does the Magnum Reaserch Desert Eagle MarkXIX .50AE rank among the
world's most powerful handguns? - Thank You, Thomas K.
The .50 AE is behind the 454 Casull which, in turn, is less powerful than the new S&W 500 Magnum.
The .50 Action Express was developed to add more performance to the Desert Eagle, which had been designed to chamber the 44 Rem Mag. The trick was to use the same rim size as the 44 Mag to make all the internals of the Desert Eagle function with only the need for a change of barrel. That's why the .50 AE has a rebated rim. .50 AE uses a 300 grain bullet at 1580 Feet per second resulting in a muzzle energy of 1568 Foot Pounds.
454 Casull with a 240 grain bullet fires at 1916 Feet per second creating energy of 1955 Foot Lbs.
Currently there are 3 loads from Corbon available for the 500 Magnum:
The "light" load is a 275-grain Barnes X copper hollowpoint bullet. Muzzle velocity is 1665 fps and it produces 1668 ft.-lb. of energy.
A 400-grain jacketed softpoint at 1675 fps and 2500 ft.-lb. of energy is available for larger game.
Those heading to Alaska or Africa will want the 440-grain hard-cast lead, gas checked, flat point load. At 1625 fps and 2580 ft.-lb. of energy. It's the new Dirty Harry handgun.

I'm not a competitive shooter, but practicing the techniques taught by Jerry Miculek in the videos has done more to improve my shooting in two weeks than all the practice I've done in the last 30 years.
I felt good shooting 2-3" single action groups with factory ammo at 15 yards with iron sights on my 4" .357 Taurus Tracker. Yesterday I was shooting 1-2" groupings consistently at 15 yards with staged double action shots at 2 to 5 second intervals. With my second box of 50 cartridges, I shot a 1.5" hole in the center of the target with only 15 flyers outside the hole. All the flyers together had a diameter of 4" (2" radius from center).
My wife, who is a natural on the range and generally outshoots me by a few points, came home yesterday, saw my target, and said "holy crap, you're going to teach me what you're doing, right?"
Guys and gals, if you want to improve your shooting results at the range, watch those videos and practice the techniques. They work.

Oxford (or Billy), I'm in the advertising business. This thread is under the Competitive Shooting, Cowboy Action Shooting section, but there's great information here whether one competes or not. Unfortunately it has had less than 300 views since posted back in November. It appears to be suffering from "placement."
I believe its broader message would best serve the larger community by being placed or duplicated in the General Handgun section. Give it some thought.

Absolutely excellent link. I don't shoot competitively but have a revolver to hunt with. I haven't had any true instruction so I will be giving this an honest try!
Thanks for the sticky!

All I can say is WOW!! Not only can this guy shoot, he can teach you how to improve your shooting if you will practice the techniques he teaches you in the videos.
Practice these techniques at home dry firing where you can review the videos to help learn them correctly. Practice, practice, practice.
You will be pleasantly surprised on your next trip to the range.
I don't shoot competition so as long as I have been at G&G I had not seen these videos, my bad. I think anyone who shoots a handgun could benefit from watching them. Perhaps a reference to them could be placed in both the self defense and handgun hunting forums?
