| G&G asst.dino wrangler ![]() | well, the fluid that is used is 1part white vinegar 1 part ammonia and 2 parts water. i used 2 c-cell batteries and an old stainless steel cleaning rod.and some wire. i put electrical tape around the end of the rod until it was the right diameter to plug the barrel at the muzzle.then i put a couple wraps of tape about every 12in. or so ,so that the rod does not touch the barrel. the rod MUST not touch barrel!then use baster or very small funnel to put fluid in barrel standing on end.hook positive wire to barrel and negative to rod. as soon as you hook up the wires the fluid should start bubbling.let it do its stuff for about 45min. checking fluid level fill as needed every 15min.my cleaning rod was BLACK when i took it out.i just stood it up in the tub. this really does work ,and they want over $100 for the machine that does the same thing!scotchbrite the rod to use again. |

| Super Moderator ![]() ![]() | Billy...that's an ingenious tool you've rigged up. Somehow I see a mental image of you smiling there with smoke, chemicals, wires, battery and a full beard with extra long eyebrows leaning over your masterpiece.

| Thanks for the "Parts List" and "Magic Formula". I will build one for me today and let you know how it works. How critical is the voltage / amperage? Is "C" Cell the only battery to use, or does it really matter? I have a bunch of "D" cells and a few 9 volts in the junk drawer, and easy ways to connect them. Nick |

| I just cleaned one of my Mosins. In lieu of taping the end of the rod to plug the muzzle I took one of my squeezy type ear plugs and stuffed it in the muzzle. I then let it swell up to plug the bore, put enough tape on the end of the rod to prevent contact with the bore, put a piece of tape every 12 inches of the rod and went to town I used one of those 9 volt square batteries and let it cook. Blackest stuff I have ever seen on my patches!!!! My rod did not turn black but I only let it run for 30 minutes to see what I could see. I guess I will now have to do a "real" job on all 10 of my rifles stay safe
