I read your column. While I am happy that you are willing to watch a movie which you were pre-emptively hesitant to, it is a bad thing that you did not see the whole point of the movie. Everyone sees that "sex" scene, if you could call it that, gets so pulled away by it that they miss the whole point. Yes, they were cheating on their wives...but why? They cheated because they could never live together as a couple in those times because of the opression by people who believe that their lifestyle is wrong. They also had to worry about the extremists who would kill them because of it. While things have changed in the last 40 years, opression and discrimination is a large part of our American Society. This goes for all aspects of the words. We have black people complaining about whites, we have white people complaining about blacks, we have gays & straights doing their hate-speech toward one another. Many women are still oppressed. If you ask me, we have not become any more of an accepting society than we were in the 1930's. Only publicly have we become a bit more open. However, behind closed doors, people are still as hate-filled as they used to be. This goes for politics, social issues, lifestyles, race, etc... I have a couple gay friends and it is nothing short of a discrace for them that our state decided to keep them from attaining the same rights as we straight folk without paying 1000's to a lawyer when with straight people, those rights come free with the purchase of a marriage license. They are no more people who want to live their lives peacefully and lovingly, same as you and me. There are many many many other things threatening our society that are way way WAAAY more dangerous than gay marriage. Yet, our politicians are heeeelllll bent on turning our attention to stupid things like abolishment of gay marriage/civil unions, "Merry Christmas" vs. "Happy Holidays" etc... rather than focusing on things that truely are a danger to our society, like illegal immigration, shipping cargo with possible bombs on board, gangs and drugs, etc... I can't believe how stupid the masses are to pay attention to the politicians' filthy game of diversion. EDIT: I don't know how this thread got off the topic of the K31, sorry...lol. Anyhow, K31 is kewl, I looked them up on Google. Looks like you have some nice stuff there. Last edited by CrazyIvan; 01-08-2007 at 12:06 PM. | |

I haven't snapped any pics yet. I really need to. I have heard several times from a Peter Hemi that I contacted, but it is a different individual. Nothing from the original owner yet. I also need to snap photos of my Mosin family and my newest addition of the French MAS I picked up this weekend. Last edited by troylaplante; 01-08-2007 at 01:21 PM. | Cool about the new rifles Troy. I have a 91/59 due to arrive Weds. if UPS gets it right. My first purchase was a laminated M44 I "opened" Christmas day. I'll have to put up some pics on the Mosin Nagant forum once I take some pics of both of them. A K31 is on the acquistion list next, along with a 91/30. Good luck in finding the correct guy. I'm hoping to get a K31 and do the same. Good point about gays having the same rights to marriage...never looked at it that way but I'm on your side with that one. |
