Now that I've got the form, it looks like I fill out both parts of the duplicate form and send one to the ATF (with check) and the other copy goes to my local LEO. In my case that would be my county sheriff, as I live outside of the city limits. Is this correct?

Yup!! I also wrote a letter (Police Chief in my case) that I'm a collector and that my guns are kept in a locked safe. I just wanted them to know I wasn't a dealer or attempting to become one. I don't know if it was needed, or if it did any good, but since I live only a block from 2 schools I thought I'd cover my butt as well as I could. Once you send them off, don't expect to hear anything from the local law, and when you figure your "stuff" should show up from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, keep waiting.. I think my stuff took over 4 months. It was worth the wait!! ![]()

Mine was back in a couple of weeks. It is a ton of books. DON'T sign the original FFL. Leave it blank and make copies. Then when you end one to a dealer, you still have the original. Best $30.00 i've spent in years. Nick

Make sure you send the affirmation of citizenship form! I don't know why it is a necessity, since anyone can falsify that form, too. But your application will not be processed without it.

Make a bunch on copies of the original UNSIGNED form. Sign the copies in red and mail them out. Get ready to watch you bank balances fall.

I followed the directions surplusrifle.com (Collecting and Shooting the Military Surplus Rifle (2006) - Surplusrifle.com) had posted on their site. It didn't mention that form either. I hope it doesn't cause me problems. | |
