Gun Show Question

I recently sent in my application for a 03FFL. I am not a previous holder.
I am wondering what the requirements are to buy C&R rifles at a gun show. I am an Illinois resident so in this state I need a current IL Firearm Owners ID card (which I have). I was thinking of going to the gun show in Indy next weekend.
Since my 03FFL hasn't arrived, will that cause me any issues, and if so...what are they?! Thanks.

Usually, you don't use a C&R at a gun show. If you legally can purchase in your state, you just follow your state requirements. I have learned to take my C&R (signed copies) with me, however. I found that a few dealers are not licensed to sell in my state but will go to a show and sell to other FFL holders. I go to gun shows about six times a year and have never used my FFL before at a show, but I will be ready if need be. I generally just use my purchase permit to aviod NICS checks. Here in NC, a conceal carry permit qualifies as a purchase permit.

My IL Firearm Owners ID card should be good enough then.
Thanks!

I'm in Illinois.
Take your C&R and FOID both to the shows.
While a few cautious dealers won't take a C&R, most will. As for the Indy1500, I've only bought guns WITH my C&R there. If not you have the waiting period for any purchase.

Like I was saying in my post above, I have applied for my C&R but haven't received it yet. I do have my FOID card.

Will I have a problem if I decide to purchase a C&R rifle with out it at the Indy show?

It all depends on your state laws.

If you are legally able to possess a gun in your state you are, more than likely, legal to buy from any private individual.

You might want to spiff up on your state laws.

Doesn't hurt trying. Most they can say is no-no and you go on home and wait for the C&R.

Very doubtful. If others can buy something that just happens to be on the C&R list with a purchase permit, I doubt seriously that you would have a problem. The whole idea of C&R licenses is to be able to purchase and have items shipped to you directly without going through a dealer. Buying from a dealer generally is not a problem, provided that local and federal requirements allow you to buy that class of firearm.

Most dealers there will recognize Illinois waiting period on firearms. So is that a problem? The C&R removes that problem for C&R guns.

License? waiting period? damm yankee laws!
I have a class 01 FFL (I am a dealer here in Alabama) and nobody needs a waiting period OR any kind of gun license or permit to buy a gun from me at a show. (hand gun or rifle)
They only have to be a state resident and pass an instant fbi check on my cell phone (takes all of 1 minute) and have a valid drivers license for ID.

If you already have a normal purchase permit, does that take care of your waiting period? Local laws differ from state to state.

I don't know the answer to that question Troy, but in buying a rifle in IL requires a 24 hr. waiting period (3 days on pistols) and possession of an IL FOID card. I don't know yet if C&R license will eliminate that or not.

In either case, I'll head to Indy and see what I can find

Illinois (and as far as I know Indiana) doesn't use a purchase permit system. Pass the NCIS check in Illinois and wait the day or three and pick up the gun. Indiana observes this law for Illinois residents. (but C&R license removes the waiting period AND background check for C&R eligible purchases.

C&R license removes the wait on C&R guns.

It's not Yankee laws.. Just stupid IL laws.. If I lived 3 miles north, in Wisconsin, it's cash and carry on long guns, no stupid FOID card, either.. Of course I'd be paying another 2.5% income tax and higher real estate taxes, too.. For that, I'll wait a day on a shotgun.

Yeah, those aren't Yankee laws. I purchased a Hand Gun at a gun show a few months back and my waiting period was about 90 seconds

Any reason why not Troy? I have used mine when I go to gun shows; however I have yet to purchase from another dealer at a gun show. Do you log your C&R purchase into your log book even if you don't use your C&R to complete the transaction.

I don't think its a requirement to use your C&R instead of the 4473 form.

I almost never buy at a gunshow UNLESS they accept my C&R.
