AIM Surplus just got a bunch of M44 Mosins in at either 69.95 or 74.95 (can't remember which). You do have to have a C & R, or pay your local FFL to take delivery.

There's always Cabela's.

Hm, depending on where you live, it looks like the closest could be Kansas City, KS; Hazelwood, MO; or the one set to open late summer in Gonzales, LA.
Cabela's -- Retail Stores

As for Big 5, there are ones in Texas... 7, in fact. Go onto their site and look up by the closest city in Texas to you (they only allow searching by states they're in).

Tricktickler, some of the regulars on these boards have their C&R lincense which means they can buy older firearms at wholesale prices. You might want to check out cruffler.com to get some ideas on what you can get, the costs of getting set up etc.

As they're nowhere near the Northwest, I've never been into one, but from their website, it appears the only firearms they carry are blackpowder/muzzleloaders. Not even regular rifles; at least not advertised on their website.

If ypou are interested in collecting at "bargain prices", then check out getting a C&R license. Crufflers has all the info, or you can go straight to ATF on the web and download the forms. If you only want one or two, then you might visit a local pawn or gun shop and ask about ordering something on their license. They give you a copy of their license, you order and pay, it ships to them, they call you when it comes, and they do the NICS form and usually charge about 30 bucks or so. I ordered a few that way before I got my license. I've paid as little as 39.95 for Turk Mausers, and a LOT more for some other things. It all depends on what you really want or need.

Well Guys less than an hour ago at the illustrious emporium known to us around here as "Gibson's Discount Hardware" I seen the first Mosins I,ve seen in a coons age!

One was a I think if I got this right a M44 91/30, the other appeared to be some sort of carbine still labeled as an M44 but with a much shorter stock/barrel than the other and with a side folding bayonet. Each was tagged at $124.00.
Any thoughts as to what that carbine may have been?

EZ, the carbine with the folding bayonet is the M44, the longer rifles are probably 91/30's. Also, as to my first post, it is actually the 91/30's that AIM has for $69.95, not the M44's.

Impact Guns, Classic arms, Century Arms, Gunbroker and Auction Arms there are a bunch out there. I found that cheapest is just a relative term. Basicaly it is whether it is availble and how bad do you want it ........HEY..A H Bass Pro doesn,t sell Mil Surp. (that I know of), but they do have a pretty good selection of rifles, shotguns, pistols, revolvers and knives and such. The prices don't seem that great to me compared with my local gun shop. Now thier ammo prices are pretty good, but then again the selection could be better and when they run a sale on ammo, you can usualy only find an empty shelf. Don't get me wrong though, I spend more money in that dang place than any sane person orta and the store is a real hoot to wander around in... Put in for my C & R about a month ago, waiting to see if I crossed all my t's and dotted all my i's.

You know, Mosineer, you've got it right. Cheap is a relative term. Getting my C&R was the most expensive "cheap" license I've ever gotten. 'Course, it's no one's fault but my own that I see old rifles and start to salivate.

No, no, you're supposed to have a "sickness", since that symptom you're describing is the same as a druggie around drugs and a theif around easily stolen goods... it's a "sickness" that you should be funded by the government through a program to "wean" you off of it, even if it takes multiple times.

We need GA, Guns Anonymous, and Firearms Clinics, like Methadone Clinics, where we can get a Jennings .25acp that jams every other shot, so that we fulfill the craving, but start to not enjoy it as much.

Of course, we'll be allowed to buy as much ammo as we want, just like drug addicts are allowed to smoke at the NA and AA meetings. So, once we relapse and buy ourselves a Mosin Nagant or Ruger 10/22, we'll go on a binge out in the countryside, killing thousands of bowling pins and pop cans.

It will, of course, be a tragic thing and we'll have to wimper back to "rehab" for another go on the taxpayer's dollar.

Ask my wife. She'd call it a sickness.
Still, every time she brings it up, I just tell her that it's cheaper than crack.
