| How The C&R License Works in New York I just got off the phone with the BATFE office for New York, which happens to be in Brooklyn. It's been more than two months since I submitted my application, and given that other people on the forum have received theirs in less time than that, I thought I'd call and find out what the status of my application is. I sent it off around Thanksgiving, and I knew BATFE in Atlanta (where they all go) got it because they cashed the check. A very nice lady named Adrian ran a query through the system and discovered my application is "pending." This means, she said, that Atlanta has processed it and is sending it back to Brooklyn for action. Adrian then sends it on to the nearest satellite office, and an Industry Operations Investigator will make an appointment to come to my home and interview me, and will explain how everything works, what a Class 03C&R license will let you do, and what it won't let you do. The investigator then files a report with Atlanta, and at some point in the future the license will arrive in the mail. Adrian was also kind enough to take a minute and explain what you can do with a C&R in New York. You can have longarms shipped to your house; likewise ammo and parts. But you can't have pistols shipped there. Those, you still have to run through a FFL holder in New York and pay the fees they want for the privilege! I suppose it's better than nothing, but it's still a major pain that the State of New York required pistols to run through a FFL and not your C&R, given that all the local gun shops want $50 or more for the privilege. The thing that frosts my cookies is these people have had two months to turn this application around (the check was cashed early in December) and they haven't even gotten round to sending the application back for action by Brooklyn yet. The way my luck runs, it will be June or July before I have the C&R, if then. And even afterwards, I'm still not shed of the need to pay highway robbery fees for pistols. You guys down South and in the West have no idea how lucky you are to live in states that think honest citizens can be trusted to own and use guns responsibly. |

| I think part of their ploy is hoping you become discouraged with the whole process and say the heck with!!! some countys in this state play that game when appling for a pistol permit. |
