Tranfer of weapons

This may or may not apply to the C&R but how do you transfer the ownership of weapons? Also if some one buys a C&R online w/o an ffl can they ship it to me and then I can transfer it to them? Just would like to know how this stuff works since I will be getting mine soon(hopefully soon).

Thanks in advance.

If a weapon is C&R and you have a C&R, you can purchase it for yourself and that is it. C&R licensees can not transfer a firearm like a dealer can, the FFL03 (C&R) is for your own collecting only. This does not mean you can't bt a gun then some later date sell it, you just can't be using your C&R to buy and sell lie a dealer would. Of corse this is the federal laws pertaining to this, there may be more local laws in play as well.

Thanks for the info. I am having a hard time figuring out what my state laws are for transfer of ownership though.

Can you do a private sale without paperwork? It falls under the same catagory. The C&R is to enhance your own collection, if at a later time you decide to sell part of that collection, you are doing it as an individual and not a dealer.

I will look for more specifics for your state, but that may or may not have helped...

If you have to have a license in your state to own or buy firearms, contact whomever issues them. Also try googling this.

Type this in your search bar/window... Transferring firearms in the state of _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ ? See what that brings up?

I am not sure if I can do private sales w/o paperwork. So hard to find info on firearms in Idaho. I have never sold a firearm privately or bought one privately either. I think firearms in idaho are registered to the buyer anyway, so I am confused.....

you can call your local sheriff's office and ask. They issue the concealed permits, and I am willing to bet you aren't the first guy to have a question on transferring a firearm in a private transaction.

If you purchased the gun with your C&R you must log in the disposition of the gun when you sell it in your Record Book. I prefer to also do a Receipt that shows the name, address, Driver's License # of the person buying any gun. One, it shows you sold it on a certain date, and lost control of it on that date. Two, if the guy won't give you that info, you probably shouldn't be selling him a gun!

Bingo!!
I had a guy at a local show try to talk me down to nothing on a crappy old Yugo SKS. We finally agreed on the price, but I informed him that I have a 03 license and would need his name, age, address, and DL.. He backed out so fast it made my head spin..

My Dad and I have a table at this show every year to pawn off knives and such, and I also tend to sell a few of the "less than desireables" in my collection, and end up taking home as many to fill the spaces they leave..

Anyway, other than needing the info for my bound book on these C & R eligible guns, it wasn't any different than any typical private gun sale.

I don't know the UTAH laws, but I know the laws there are pretty open on guns. I'd guess that a private sale doesn't require much..

Here in IL, where we're VERY restricted, all we have to do for a private sale is verify that the buyer is legal to own, and record the sale (name/address/age/etc.) and keep that info for a few years. I can't remember if it's 3 or 5 years, and the info's in my wallet and I'm not getting up to check.

If all else fails call your local police, or ask at a gun dealership.. Remember, the typical guy at a dealership on either side of the counter will know more about it than the police, unless the police officer is a gun nut too..
