Brought home a new Cz 452 Ultra Lux .22 yesterday. What a rifle! The fit, finish and quality is the best I've seen in a relatively cheap rifle. The walnut stock is extremely well done with beautiful grain. Cant wait to shoot it There is something really strange about the rifle though! It isnt catalogued in the CZ website and it has a few different features than any gun they list. For one, it has the longest barrel I've ever seen on a .22. The longest barrel they list is 24.8" and this one is at least 26.5". Its marked "Super Brno SAA 2500. The stock has a nice recoil pad and thats not offered on the models listed and the stock itself is more of a modified European style without the Schnabel forend. I read that a dealer in Europe contracted CZ to build about 200-250 specially modified rifles and then backed out of the deal. Since CZ was stuck with the rifles, they went ahead and slipped them into the American market. If thats true, then this must be one of those rifles. Anyone have one the Lux model rifles or ever hear of the Ultra Lux? I cant find a thing on the web about it. |

Just came across an article on what sounds like that exact gun the other day. Pretty interesting. You might want to hang on to that one, it seems they're somewhat rare. http://www.gunblast.com/Paco_CZ452.htm -Bert |

Thanks Bert24b. I clicked on the picture and sure enough, thats just like mine. I knew it was a little different when I bought it and the box it came in had a sticker that read "452 Ultra Lux" placed over the original that read "ZKM Lux" I'm definately hanging on to this one! Its a real beauty. |

| Ultra Lux
I'm not disputing the claim of it's rarity.....but I have one and my buddy has one and there are lots of people on Rimfire Central that have them.....great shooting rifle. Don't try to take the recoil pad off, you'll destroy it before you get it off. BTW.....the wood isin't Walnut, but my Ultra Lux has a better looking stock than one of my Americans, which is supposed to be Walnut.

You're right about the wood. At first I thought it was walnut but its beech. Still looks really nice. I'm begining to wonder about the rarity though. I have only seen a few others but they do seem to be showing up with more regularity. Still think its strange that the CZ website doesnt list them. They are great shooters! Mine is accurate with everything I feed it but so far the CCI Green Tag gets the smallest groups. Havent tried the Winchester yet but I will this weekend. |

The Special isn't on the web site either and look how many of those are out there. I heard they were also a deal gone bad like the Ultra Lux story, or Sumphen like that. What ever it was, it was a good deal for us (Americans)..... A Special is what hooked me into CeeeeeZeeeee's.

The CZ Ultra Lux was actually made by Zbrojovka Brno, not Ceska Zbrojovka-Uhersky Brod. CZ-UB and CZ-USA do not list the rifle, because it is not their product. "CZ" is the universal abbreviation of the Czech Republic, and it was the abbreviation of both of the former Republics of Czechoslovakia. Many different enterprises (whether private or public) have used "CZ" as a product identifier. During the communist era, Zbrojovka Brno and Ceska Zbrojovka were combined under a state central management agency. Prior to this era, Brno made rifles, and CZ made pistols and military small arms (machine guns, flare guns, etc.). One enduring legacy of this forced collabaoration is that Brno now makes revolvers and CZ now makes bolt action rifles. Prior to the communist era, Zbrojovka Brno was the premier Czech arms manufacturer, with a well-deserved world reputation. Currently, CZ-UB has eclipsed Brno. It is now the second largest arms manufacturer in all of Europe. During the communist era, all exported arms were usually marked "BRNO," in order to trade on Brno's reputation. By the 1980s, CZ handguns were usually marked "CZ," due to their growing reknown.
