Is it safe?

I just received my first CZ 52 pistol, its in the original gray finish and looks to be unused. I put a NOS recoil spring and FP, cleaned and lubed it. My question is should I spend the $40.00 to have it checked out or are these guns good enough to shoot if everything looks new.
Thanks for any info!

Thumbs up

When I bought mine, I stripped, cleaned and lubed it. Gave it a good visual inspection, and a thorough fnction check. All was well, so out to the range I went. I'm pleased with it.
I still need the better firing pin and trigger kit, and some more magazines.

I did about the same as you. Stripped it, cleaned it and checked it over. Didnt bother taking it to a shop to have it checked. Works like a champ!

Disassembly and cleaning is definitely the way to go. Keep an eye out for signs of weakening of the metal. I haven't heard of single catastrophic failure with the CZ-52 that wasn't related to ammo.

I always fire the first rounds from a new gun holding the gun in a way that would minimize the harm to me if it blew.

Thanks to all for your feedback!! I bought some Winchester 85 GR. FMF at the local gun show for $9.50 a box of 50, more costly then surplus ammo but I feel better shooting good quality USA made ammo. Will post my range report in a week or so when I get a day off to go and shoot. Does anyone know where I can get a good CCW holster for this awesome gun? :target:

That's not a bad price at all for factory ammo. Good luck shooting! I'm not sure about CCW holsters, but you may be able to take a military one available from places like CDNN, AIM, Centerfire, etc that come with the pistol. You could search some holster manufacturers, or perhaps try a universal one?

Plus you could always go to a leather shop and have one made off of the pattern of the military holster that came with it. With 5 CZ52's, I said the heck with it and took one of the holsters and trimmed the flap off of it and oiled it down. Doesn't look too bad, and now I don't have to mess with a flap....slides right in and out. This is the one that I will eventually take or send to a shop and have a nice black one made.

Sorry to bust your balloon, but the Winchester Tokarev (7.62x25) 85gr ammo is actually manufactured by S&B in the Czech Republic (check out the "Made in Czech Republic" on the box) and hence is functionally identical to the green-and-red S&B stuff. They even chrony at the same speed. The only difference is the case headstamp.

And BUST MY BALLOON YOU DID RADEKASTER!!! I just assumed the Winchester name was all I needed to look at ( I guess its true what they say about the first three letters of assume ) Anyway thanks for the wake up call, that is EXACTLY why I join in on these boards, to learn something new! And to top it off the S&B ammo is cheaper.

Yes it is! www.cheaperthandirt.com has it for $7.49/box-of-50. I bought a bunch some time back and use the cases for reloading since I had so much trouble with Starline brass in the CZ-52.

I'm curious: has anyone actually broken a CZ-52 firing pin? I have two CZ-52s, fired probably 1000 rounds thru each, have dry fired then on occasion but have yet to break an original (crummy????) firing pin. Is this another case of some yo-yo wanting to make a name for himself by pulling the alarm chord?
