| History call - Czech M98/22 8mm Mauser I'm hoping to get a better idea of where some of my guns fit in history, not necessarily my particular ones, but say the same folks who made and carried them, where did this model of gun go? On this thread I'd like to learn more about the history of the Czech M98/22 Mauser.

| If I'm not mistaken the 98/22 was originally made for the Czech army. It was a slight variant of the Model 1912 Steyr-made Mexican Mauser. The particular one I have has farsi numerals on the sight ladder. It is in excellent condition and has treated me quite well at CMP shoot once I made a new front sight blade for it to adjust to realistic ranges.

| My research found the following.... "When the Republic of Czechoslovakia was founded in 1919, it continued to use for a short time The Austro-Hungarian Mannlicher M1895 rifles. In 1924 Ceskoslovenska Zbrojovka Brno-"ZB"- began the production of Mauser rifles for the Czech army and for export. The Czechs, in competition with the Belgians of FN, took over a goodly part of the military rifle arms trade of the world. All the Mausers produced by ZB were based on the M98 action. The models produced were: the rifle 98/22, rifle 98/29,short rifle 98/29,carbine 12/33 and the rifle model 24.The 98/22 differs from the 98/29 mainly in the use of front sight guards-"sight ears" on the 98/29. The 98/22 was used by Turkey, among other countries.Romania,Guatemala,Yugoslavia and China used the Model 24 in addition to Czechoslovakia. Model 24(T) was the German Army designation for the Czech Mauser and 11 Divisions of the German army were equipped with it and other Czech weapons in September 1939 when WW2 began."
