| Vzor 59 MG/ need help Dear Sirs, My name is Dmitry Dzhulay and I'm the editor of a magazine for men called ‘XXL’/Kiev/Ukraine (www.xxl.kiev.ua). We have 32-pages special supplement dedicated to active hobbies as shooting and hunting. In this supplement we publish articles about hunting, shooting-sport and history of weapon. We make tests of different weapon both military and hunter. In our next issue (June/2006) we are planning to publish an article about Czech machine-gun Vzor 59. We are going to make test of the one we have. But we do not have enough information about history of creation of this superb weapon. We think it would be very interesting to tell our readers about more about it. Could you help us providing with information on English . The net is overflowing with stuff written in Czech. The problem is that I do not understand Czech. All information about Vzor 59 will be appreciated. Thank you. Sincerely, Dmitry Dzhulay, dima@xxl.kiev.ua |

| sorry can't help you there. Ian Hogg's book has even less on the gun. Might have to find yourself a translator.

| Sir, The Model 59 is one of a series of "universal" or general purpose MG's which have appeared only since WW2. It is used on a tripod as a heavy Machine Gun or on a bipod as a light Machine Gun. In Czech service,it can use either a light Barrel,a medium Barrel , or a Heavy Barrel. The weapon is available in 2 calibers,7.62 Rimmed (Russian) and 7.62 Nato, where it is Called the model 59N.Barrels,gas pistons,Gas cylinder Block and bolts are chrome plated. There are spring loaded dust covers over the feed, link ejection and case ejection ports. The case ejection port cover is opened and closed by pulling the trigger. The Model 59 is an interesting weapon, the feed mechanism is basically the same as the early ZB37 and is also used for belt feed in the model 52. The cocking mechanism is the same as the model 52 and similar to the ZB37.The bolt mechanism is a modification of the basic ZB-26,ZB-37,Model 52;the separate bolt locking lug piece is similar to that used on the Czech Model 58 assault rifle. The receiver is a milled forging and most other parts except the feed plate and dust covers are forgings as well. The design is good . Cyclic rate is 700-800 r.p.m. and it feeds with a 50 rd. non- disintegrating metallic link belt. This is what I have for info and I hope it Helps! Rich

| There was no "person" that invented it, as it was just developed by the Czech Military as an improved design over the previous Models in 1959. Vaclav Holek developed the ZB26 in 1924 and the Czech Military Industries developed the Model 52 and Model 59 from that design, after WW2. Rich
