cz52

I bought a CZ52 the other day. I ran 70 rounds thru it and had approx 20 FTF(failures to feed). The gunsmith polished my ramp and barrel throat. I ran another 50 of Winchester FMJ thru it with no stoppages at all. However, at approx 25 feet, my target looked like a shot-gun blast. Worst accuracy I've ever seen in my life. I ordered the $48 super duper trigger-make-better firing pin, but hasn't arrived yet. Truely, I wish I had not spent the money on the gun at all. Some say it's a great plinker, but if you can't hit anything smaller than a 5 gallon bucket, what's the point?

I'll second that motion. The CZ52 typically flings brass 35 feet as opposed to a modern semi-auto pistol that flings brass 5 feet. Also the sights are old style. Sure makes you appreciate the sights on a modern pistol.

Sorry to hear that you've had such trouble with your Cz52 Gymhart. Mine has been flawless since I bought it... no Jams or FTF's still to this date over 300 rounds later. It's definitely one of my more accurate pistols too. I think you should give it a second chance when you put the new firing pin in it. It should lighten up the trigger a bit and that might help with your shot placement.
Mine was shooting terrible when I first got it until I got used to the heavy trigger pull, and then my groups tightened up nicely. Try shooting it benched and see what happens.

a cz52 is easier to breakdown that a Ruger Mark III if that helps, as long as all the cosmolene is cleaned out well from the guts.

I'll keep that in mind OS. I'm on my way home tomorrow and hope to have my hands on one for use as a pattern in a day or two. I've had several folks offer to let me use their originals but if I've got the actual gun, I can get a much better fit. I'll be posting here when I've got them available.

I've been wanting a CZ52 so bad and it drives me nuts that I've ran across them several times in the past when I didn't have much money. Recently, I did have the cash on hand and didn't find one for sale around here. But I understand that you can have them ordered from a couple sources for very reasonable prices. I've seen them in the Shotgun News but who's best to do business with?

Ok, guys, here's the deal. Like I said last remark, since the gunsmith polished the barrel and ramp, I've had no stoppages. The new Harrington slick firing pin came the other day and I installed it with just a few adjustments. The trigger is very smooth and has a light sear release. Also, I found some HOT ammo. At Reed's Ammunition & Research. I bought 50 of 85 gr XTP's and they come out of the CZ52 at 1800 fps! So, with the hollow point, no overpenitration and with 611 ft lbs energy, it's only 100 ft lbs shy of the .44 Mag!

I'll post a report as soon as I get the ammo.

FIRST POST

Hello everyone. Really like the site. As for the CZ 52... I've had one for nearly 10 years. The three problems I've had (one of which I still have) were: 1) The original grips looked like someone went after them with a wood rasp. I pulled them off and replaced them with a set of Hogue Coco Bolo wood grips back when they cost less then half what they do today. 2) The trigger pull required a mule and a small tractor to set the gun off. I replaced the firing pin with one from Harrington and the trigger pull dropped down into the range accessible to mere mortals. The only problem with the firing pin conversion is that you lose the firing pin safety and using the decocker is now an adventure. 3) The sights are microscopic. I've seen a few with aftermarket sights but because of the way the slide gets thinner towards the top they just look weird.

All in all however I'd have to say get one. They are a cannon. Expect to see massive fire balls out the end of the barrel and anyone to your right running for cover as they try to escape hot brass. Ammo is relatively cheap and finally some HP's are coming on the market. I recently got some of the new Wolf Gold 85 gr. HP's but haven't had a chance to fire any.

Prices have gone up lately. I have seen almost a $50 jump in distributor pricing in the last year.

Zen replies: I copied and pasted this from Makarov.com

Hello, I keep seeing posts on these forums about cleaning up the Trigger pull on the CZ 52, most require disabling the guns drop safety (in other words if you drop the gun it goes BANG) ALL OF THESE METHODS SHOULD BE IGNORED they are what competent gunsmiths call Hack trigger jobs, if you choose to eliminate these safety features intentionally you leave yourself open to criminal charges, ie negligent homicide, should another person be killed as a result of your fire arm discharging or civil suit

I know the guy who posted this he is rather Posative in his thinking and he is a real important guy,....just ask him...
His biggest problem is that everyone doesnt know how important he thinks he is.
it is possible to DEactivate the Hammerdrop feature from the safety lever AFTER installing the aftermarket firing pin.
so ya cant accidentally push the safety past the detent drop the hammer and cause an unexpected Ka Blammo.
an unexpected Ka blammo is a bad thing
he is right about that.
