Zbrojovka A.S. VZ.24 30-06 caliber

I just borrowed a 30-06 rifle from my wifes grandfathers collection as it was the only 30-06 caliber he had. I was wondering if anyone could help with any kind of info on this gun as I have done a fair amount of searching and havent found to much. The only other number stamped on the barrel is 8162. Is it reliable, any age indication, etc.

Thanks.

Help too!

I just received a rifle, 30-06 calliber, from my father. It has VZ 24 on it. I cannot find out anything about it. It was believed to have been purchased at Sears in the late 40's to early 50's. I would like to know anything you find out. Please email me at jthesso@yahoo.com. I cannot find anything out online. I cannot even find a picture of it.

The VZ-24 was originally built by BRNO in Czechoslovakia (didn't think I could spell that did ya? ), and are generally considered to be some of the best Mauser actions around. There were a bunch of guys sporterizing any Mauser they could get their hands on after WW 2 and many were actually sold under folks' brand name. I suspect both of these guns fall under this category. Welcome to G&G! BTW, pics would help with the ID.

I agree with toolman, they are most likly an old czech vz 24 that has been rechambered. many people like the 98 bolt acton but not the original 8mm round, so they would have them rebarreled in there favorite hunting round. I have seen them in 30-06, 264, 7mm, etc...

the cz vz.24 did come in a 30-06. it is not well known, and not very often seen. not to say that rechambering did not take place, however there are some that exist that have been 30-06 from the start. i happen to have one, and love to shoot it often. the only down side is the bolt sometimes hangs up on the rounds in the stock.
