| Resident Armed Liberal ![]() | Pics of Cz 70 Finally found a transfer cable that will work with my camera, so pics's as promised: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As you can see, it's a rather small gun. But with the extended mag base it sets naturally, and my hand doesn't ride up so I get bitten by the hammer or slide. And it has a comfortable, solid-steel heft; it doesn't feel cheesy. The last pic is with my Norinco Tokarev, again for size comparison.

According to Wikipedia, the CZ 70's had the following modifications: * New grip shape with a larger recess for the web between thumb and finger. * New grip pattern using a grid of dimples instead of grooves. * Top of the slide is engraved with a fine wave pattern to reduce glare. * Serial number is stamped on the slide under the ejection port instead of below and behind it. * Slide serrations are wider and there are more of them. * Take down lever has a cross-hatched instead of grooved surface. * Larger, knurled hammer with a hole in it. * Smaller magazine release. * Magazines have new base with a more angular and less curved shape. Mine has every one of those characteristics except for the grips and the location of the serial number, although its government acceptance stamp is 1969 instead of 1970 or later. So overall, I'd say it qualifies as a CZ 70. It's either an early-bird special, or had a very short life as a CZ 50 before being reincarnated as a 70... It's a fun subject for discussion (I like talking about my guns), but I'm not really worried one way or the other. I love heck out of it, whatever it is. And I much prefer the older grips anyway; I think the newer ones were slab-sided and ugly, and the shape doesn't look comfortable to me. Although my nephew, who has short thick hands, commented that when he held it naturally his hand rode up where the web could get bitten. So for him, the new grips with the deeper cutout at the top might make sense. He hasn't had a chance to actually shoot it yet, though. So that might or might not be an issue.

But a CZ 50 that was arsenal-updated into a CZ 70 is still considered a CZ 70... Here are a couple of pics so other people know what we're talking about. First, the CZ 50: the edge of the frame does a little scalloped whoop-de-do right past the trigger guard. ![]() Now the CZ 70: the edge below the trigger guard blends smoothly instead. ![]() Thanks for pointing that out. I would probably have never noticed, since I don 't have two side by side to compare.

| Senior Member | I found a cz-70 for sixty bucks on Guns America, but when I called the guy that had it in Boston to set up the purchas, I was just too late! It was a little rough on the finish, but I wanted it as a smaller concealed carry gun so the finish made to matter to me, and at sixty bucks, what a steal! Bummer! Maybe next time huh? |

| Registered User | New CZ70 purchase Just picked up a CZ70 after a conversation with a contractor who did work for us, he had it several years and has'nt shot it in quite some time. I cleaned it up and it looks pretty good, -excpt for some marks on the top right grip, looks like someone rubbed up against something at one point. I've been looking for one of these or a Makorov, for $100 bucks figured I could'nt go wrong, came with only one mag and the brown issue holster with flap. I'm looking forward to runnin' a box or 2 through it, I hear they are fun to shoot. The gun looks just like the second picture above, definately a CZ70, on the left side below the slide is stamped: CAI.SI.ALB.VT. Any idea what these stand for? Above on the slide: VZOR 70 CAL 7.65 Made in Czechoslovakia. Last edited by denis216; 02-24-2008 at 07:04 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |
