VZ58

Hey gents, I just put a VZ58 on layaway and then I started looking around gunbroker for parts kits to steal a folding stock from.
But then the ol wheels started turning and I was thinking, if I were to buy a receiver, would I be able to build one fairly easily and then have a PAIR of VZs!? That would be sweet to have a fixed stock on and a folder.
Plus my fixed stock one came with five magazines...

Also, does anyone like this rifle? I was debating between the VZ and a Polish Tantal. I got the VZ because everyone in the gunshop talked so highly of it...

Aren't the barrels in the parts kits too short?

yes, by a very small amount. I think you can weld a permanent muzzle brake on or something

You asked for Mooseman's advice, why not heed it?

I have heard nothing but good things about them. I like how they kept the bolt open on the last round. Plus they are pretty cheap, I have seen them on atlanticfirearms.com for like $500 bucks. I think I might pick one up after I pay off my galil that I got. I want to get one before they go up high in price or laws come where you can't have any ak variant.

Ya I am just going to stick with the complete one that I already have and maybe buy a parts kit for the folding stock on the future.

VZ58

Last weekend I fired 60 rounds with my VZ58. It was my first time and I experienced no problems at all. The barrell does gets hot after 30 rounds. Accuracy (slow fire) with a silhouette target was OK at 40 yards. Rapid fire accuracy was not so good. Probably me - not the gun. The kick is mild. In any case, I like the VZ very much.

Amazing what happens to the price when an anti-gun person is elected president. The MSRP is now $1000. I paid $1400 out the door back in December 2008. Supply and demand. Gotta love capitalism.

Just bought the CZ-VZ58 tactical sporter. This is an outstanding rifle. You can tell upon examination that the rifle was well built. Nothing rattles when you shake it but the rings that secure the strap. Ive put over a 100 rounds through her without a single hiccup. The only problem I had was when I loaded all 30 rounds into the magazine and tried to load 1 into the chamber the bolt would stop halfway upon closing. I believe this was due to the magazine spring being loaded to tight. I only have 1 magazine so I could not test another to see if in fact that was the problem. I removed a couple of rounds and tried it again and it was perfect. No problems when loaded just shy of 30 rounds. Accuracy right out the box at 25 yards was spot on! The recoil is hardly felt due to the design of the tactical stock. It really absorbs the shock well. I paid $899.00 at my local gun store. She is worth every penny! I think the vz-58 is going to gain in popularity here in the states once more people find out about them. Most people have never even heard of this rifle. And if you showed most people they would immediatly say, "Oh you got an ak huh?" Thats happened a few times when showing her off. If you can get your hands on one I say do it! With the election of Obama prices are rising and assult rifle are becoming harder to get. You will be ahead of the curve with this one!!!!

Thumbs up

I got lucky and scored a D-Technic VZ58 in a group buy about a year & half ago. Great little rifle and CzechPoint USA has mag's and other goodies.

I've been looking at those, too. Right now they are out of my price range, tho'.

BTW 'doctor rizz', the VZ58 is NOT an AK variant. Much different design.
