How about the Savage package in a 270, 7mm express. Either one will drop a Black bear, Grizzly I wouldn't even think about it.The 30-06 is probably one of the most versatile rounds and most readily available. Savage are always a good shooter right out of the box.

Dick's is having a sale on Remington 700 SPS in camo stock with Nikon Prostaff scope for $650. Or get the OD Green 700 SPS Varming Combo with scope for $460!

I would like to suggest a 30-06 or even a 300WM if you can shoot it comfortably.

You will be able to hunt anything in NA with confidence.

I got a Stevens 200 for a cheap gun to carry in my truck and take abuse I wouldnt do to my other nice guns, it is in 7mm-08, I put a nice Nikon Buckmasters 3x9x40 that cost about the same ($300) and that gun has become my go to gun cause it is a tackdriver and light to carry.
