Hunting Aids

Seems a shame to have this forum and no use, so here goes. Over the years I managed to accumulate a number of injuries that have made me use some hunting aids. First of all I'm not complaining or whinning just stateing injuries and what I use to continue hunting. I have both an artificial knee and hip in the right leg. I have to wear a brace on the lower left leg which is numb due to a back injury and now have a dropped foot. Over the years I have accumulated a lot of walking sticks to aid me in getting around. I have 3 major commercial ones that I use, two are made by Stoney Point an a no namer K Mart special. If I'm bird hunting I use a Stoney Point that uses shock cord and folds into 3 sections, it's always in my hunting vest and if I get in a situation I can get to it quickly. But this allows me to have my shotgun ready for gamebirds. The other Stoney Point is an Explorer model 4 sections that slde into each and twist lock. You can mount a shooting rest on top which is what I do. I use the when hunting deer or squirrels. I use a handgun at times and this is a real plus. The K Mart one has lcd light built in to handle a a detachable basket device for the bottom. Use this one to get around in the marsh duck hunting. Don't know if this helps anyone or not.

Thumbs up Way 2 go & not let it keep you from doing something you enjoy

I'm glad you haven't let this beat you and stop you from doing something you love and enjoy. Glad you decided to instead find ways and things to use to make it a little easier for you to do, when you do get out there to shoot or hunt. Keep on keeping on there

Xsea240 I feel for you and I too use some things to help me when I'm deer hunting.
I restored a small cart I can tow behind my 4 wheeler to put deer in where I want hurt my back lifting them up on the rack. Though I don't have back problems.
I hunt out of ground blinds 95 % of the time.
I hunt in pairs in case one of us have an accident and use FR mini radios.
I wear safty glass's when rideing my 4 wheeler.
Since I use my 4 wheeler when I go hunting I carry a lot of stuff that I use to never carry for a "just in case" situation.
None of these things I've mentioned are for helping me due to injurys, but are for preventing injury and being ready if an injury or accident occurs while out hunting.
I'm proud of you feller...A.H

Hi. Just now looking at this forum. I'm looking at retrofitting a Jazzy to make it a semi-all-terrain vehicle. At least I'll be able to go into the woods again.

I've hunted most of my life, but can't know. I have a "thing" called avascular necrosis, where the bones in my upper legs are dying. It's mostly in the hips, and I need two hip replacements in the very near future. Just walking brings tears to my eyes, and I eat enough Tylenol and prescription meds for pain to keep the pharmisutical businesses going for a long time.I've had 13 surgeries in the past 15 years or so and I'm worn out. I'm also only 57, and had a massive heart attack last Feb '07, that was supposed to be fatal.I can drive to my buddies range, drive within 10 feet of a shooting stance, and pluck beer cans and paper targets all day. I'm happy, as there are so many people whose worse off than I. I pray everyday for the pain to go away, but it never does. Some days, before getting out of bed, I get a little teary-eyed as I know I'm in for a rough day.I try to make the most out of what I got, and I thank all my friends on this forum for letting me be part of their lives and dialogue. I agree, this particular forum doesn't get used much as enabled people don't stop here very often. It's just human nature, and I don't have any grudges against them. But I love you all, and look forward to being here everyday. I do sound melancholy today as I'm in some horrible pain right now, and it's too early to start taking my prescription painkillers.( They knock me down hard to I can sleep).Peace!!
