is dpms really that great of a brand?

I know they make cheap ar 15s, but are they any good? I have heard good and bad things about them. so how do they rank in the following?

are they good guns stock?

what kind of accuracy could I get with thim with handloads and a scope?

and are they good running guns?

well God&guns ive actually made a couple of runs up to the DPMS plant with loads of barrel blanks and got to handle a few completed rifles while they unloaded the trailer and gotta say for the money they are great ar's ive fired some and i cant complain. If you get a good handload recipe you can make a tack driver out of em.

I always heard great things and have seen a few older DPMS firearms and they ran and shot great. In the last 2 years I have heard quite a bit of bad reviews and talked to people trying to sell theirs due to poor manufacturing tolerances and malfunctions and inadequate accuracy. I heard a rumor that DPMS was bought out by the company that owns Remington and Bushmaster and a few other companies and if that is true possibly the change has caused a change in manufacturing similiar to the manufacturing process used by bushmaster which has led to a reduction in quality manufacturing trying for quantity not quality. But I have not had any personal experience with recently made DPMS products. Only with recently and older makes of Bushmasters and several other makers of AR style rifles.

I have to totally, disagree with this!
Don't know were the word, CHEAP came from?

I think, they are a QUALITY gun.
And have put thousands of rounds, down range.
With a variety, of different ones.

When my life depends on, a black rifle.
I WILL, be picking up a D.P.M.S.!

Range reports are always welcome. Some guys like them so well you could probably do one on chucking rocks downrange and they'd read it with relish.

I am quite happy with my DPMS stripped lowers, but that's hardly a fair basis for judging their completed guns. The DPMS / Panther Arms guns were popular around here a couple of years ago, but I haven't seen any for a while.

I'm just as happy with my DPMS as I am with my Colt. I've fired thousands of rounds downrange, and put it through some aggressive use and 3-gun competition, it's never failed as long as you take care of it just like any other AR.

Just don't buy a Plinker. Same as with the other brands, don't buy the bottom-dollar rifle. Happy as a clam with my Oly arms, but wouldn't turn down a DMPS.
By the way, where the heck did that saying "happy as a clam" come from?

I have a choice, either a Remington R15 in 243 or a DPMS in .308.
But I also have my eye on a Remington bolt gun, a model 700 20" tactical for 550.00 nib. Such a quandary I am in, and its shameful the way I drool over all of them.

I put 20, .308 rounds down range.
Just a hour ago.
That should scare off the bears, for awhile.

Here is their web site.

DPMS: AR-15 Rifles, Parts and Accessories.

They are a good gun, but the Bushmaster bolt will out last a DPMS bolt.

Probably because clams are so low on the animal intelligence scale that they don't know enough to be anything except happy -- no worries be happy and all that.
