DPMS .308

Do you own one. What kind? Group shots at 100 yards+. Let me know.

From what I have heard... the DPMS in 308 is a fantastic gun for a simi. It groups great at 100 yards within 1/2" groups or better. I'm sold on this gun and will buy it.. shoot it, and then I will personally let you know more about it.

< lr308t, burris fullfield 2 scope, usually half inch groups with decent ammo, my favorite rifle out of 9. get yourself one while you can, i have to say mags are usually pricey but i go to 44mag and they around 30 wich isnt as bad

my only con is the trigger, it is a bit stiff. i plan on getting a new trigger but the only one ive really had a chance to look at is the timney drop in ar10 trigger wich is like a million dollars ( like around 180$)

I have one only had the opportunity to shoot once so far and I was at a 200 yard range. I made the mistake of not bore sighting it before I went. I started with magtech ammo which I don't think is to good, as the rounds that were on target were 'key-holing". Next time to the range I will be using good ammo and I will purchase a spotting scope so I can see what is going on. I plan on buying a good trigger for it as well as a magpul stock.

Also, what are your thoughts for a decent scope (400 yard capability) without breaking the bank ?

As for a decent scope I like the $299 Super Sniper scopes you can get them in 10 or 16 0r 20 power same price or you can get a 10x with side focus for $399

I get good results with the cheap centerpionts from walmart. The one I got was a 4x16x50 Illuminated mildot red or green adjustable objective and rings. Its about 70 bucks. I bought it for my sons 22 but tried it on my LR and it is still there. Its cheap but does a good job if your not an optics snob. It does lose clarity when you need it most at high magnifications and is eye position sensitive. But for plinking off a rest it is just fine out to 300yards. I have not tried it past that yet.
I posted this already but here it is. The rifle is capable I am not.

Not an Optics snob.

How does the scope fit when you put the rifle back in its case? It would appear that the knobs on both sides MIGHT hinder closing the case.

After reading your post I went to Wal-Mart and found a 4X16X40 scope - is that by chance the one you bought? Or is my local Wal-Mart cutting corners again? Any problem using the mounts that Centerpoint includes with the scope?

I just bought an LR243 from my brother. He never got around to shooting it (six months in his safe) or turning in the warranty card. My wife is a little sore about the price ($1100 even) and I don't want to tick her off even more by spending $200-$300 on a scope (at least not yet).

I've got an AR-10. It shoots better than my NM M1A. I can't believe that any AR design based .308 would be much different. I don't shoot either wth a scope, but I don't believe the results would be much different just tighter groups. IMHO acheap scope is just that cheap some are good and some aren't. If it hols zero while you are shooting it then you have a good one. If it doesn't hold zero then look first at the mount and rings. I had a scope on a flat top 223 that wouldn't hold zero, turned out to be the rings weren't aligned on the mount and over-tightened, fixed that and all was well.

Just bought a DPMS LR308B. Wondering what the best scope would be and wondering what the best distance to zero sight gun at. Gun dealer repeated several times "this gun can shoot a long ways". Welcome recommendations.

I have a DPMS LR308 AP4. I put a Nikon 3X9X40 scope on it and zeroed it in at 200 yds. Seems to work, it's about 2 inches high at 100 yds. I didn't go real expensive on the scope because I've always shot Highpower rifle competition with open sights. I've just realized that I need a scope due to old eyes and it still bothers me to use a scope. These rifles are accurate and the 308 round is a good one. We shoot them out to 600 yds with open sights in Highpower competition. I will probably upgrade my scope later. I would buy the best scope I could afford to put on my 308.

I did go ahead and buy the cheap centerpoint for my LR243. For the time being it will do, eventually I'll upgrade to a "good" scope. I have a Leupold on my 7MM Mag and the differance between it and the centerpoint is every noticable (to the extreme). On the other hand though the 7mm has a very harsh recoil and needs a good scope to take the beating and stay zeroed - not the case with the LR243. I spent some time breaking it in and sighting it in yesterday and the cleaning after every round took some time and didn't allow me to get very comfortable with the rifle and settle into a pattern. The rifle can definately outshoot the scope I have on it and my abilities. A year or so from now I'll "invest" in a quality scope.

The DPMS case will not close on the rifle with the Centerpoint scope mounted.

Dumb Question: Anyone else have problems gripping the charging handle when the scope is mounted? It works but is just seems very awkward - especially when wearing gloves.

DPMS LR308

Anybody have any trouble shooting surplus ammo in their LR308? It hangs up in the magazine on mine. Sporting ammo cycles just fine.

I just picked up an LR 308 AP4 myself and was wondering, if I go with a 40 mm scope, 1" tube, should I use high scope mounts? I was told that I wont even see the front sight in the scope so I'm holding im to it. I just bought it last Friday and I was hoping to shoot it this weekend but now its supposed to start raining Friday night and go thru Sunday some time!! GRRR!!! Anybody using the Holo sight for hunting? I plan on using my rifle for deer hunting in the swamps so I am going to get a scope setup but probably use iron sights most of the time.

I would use the high mounts - it will give you more room to grip charging handle.

Question...how about some pics or info on an AP4 with a scope and what case do you use. I've got an AP4 and would like to set up a scope on it for longer range work but am concerned about the front sight being there. Was told by dealer I wouldnt even see it because its so close.
