frenchy | The #5 rifle is kind of famous at Bisley for it's accuracy. It belongs to one of the range marshals and a fine gent. He let me shoot it during a break at the 200 yard line on the McQueens sniper course. I had just shot a string on the Hun's trench line and shot a 42 out of 50 and that put me four off of the leader who was shooting an LB #4T of some fame. At that point I was offered several neat rifles to shoot. Like this original 1916.
The second string didn't go as well as the first plus I was way over my head but the off hand shooting went very well and I may have worn off my edge blazing away during the break. I caught a few helmet shots before settling down and they didn't pay and I only had a 30 I think. Really interesting course. Those guys know that game too.

It took a little over 100 rounds for the barrel to settle down and be consistent. IMHO these UF 55 rifles are the best that Fazakerley built.

Gaw-Dam! I ain't never seen Enfields like I've seen in this thread! That 55 Fazakerly of Billy's is amazing! And that top one in MJ11's SMLE pic - ain't no way somebody could keep a gun that old in that amazing a shape for all those years!! MadCrateBuilder and SNO4MK1: You guys have AWESOME collections! I'm used to seeing Lee-Enfields with the bluing worn off, the stocks soaked in re-used engine oil and tumbled in a cement mixer's gravel load, and then painstakingly browned with cosmoline over all! Seeing this batch of photos is like having a whole new world revealed to me...

MJ, if I read your comment right, then you have my commiserations. I have dreamed of having even a 1/10th of a collection as good as yours, and I am sad that you are going to be parting with firearms that obviously bring you joy. I will also admit to some drooling over your L42A1 - beautiful.

It's a load to bare and if you move around a lot it's hard to haul along not to mention insurance and security. I did this once before by cutting everything in half. Who needs six G43's. LOL

I somehow don't think you'll have many problems finding new owners for part of your collection. The L42A1 (if it is one of the fireams you will be parting with) looks like it is worth a bidding war and a few punch-ups (the closest I'll get to one is your photos lol). I think the sharks.... errr..... Enfield collectors are already circling lol

Nicely marked Maltby's, the ones I see local are pretty worn out. My one Maltby has the early fore-end.
Can you tell this one is a Faz?
Early Savage-Stevens with round cocking piece.

Take it from one who's working a civil slave-class job because he cannot afford to medically retire: If you have to sell your guns to retire, maybe it's time to consider post-retirement employment! Better a crossing guard with a decent gun collection than a garden putterer with nothing...

Geeze, nice GEW 43. I can only imagine what the recoil must be like with a semi automatic 8mm...ouch.
