My brother-in-law talked me into going to a gunshow today that I did not want to attend. It is a 1.5 hour drive each way and has been a huge disappointment the last couple of times I went. It ended up being well worth the drive, I picked up 320 rounds of '55 RG and a No4 MkI.

Not a bad day!!

I didn't know how negative you boys felt about handloading. I just prefer to limit the flame cutting and throat etching from the surplus. I need as long a barrel life as I can get.

Cheers

Alan:
Despite extreme luck finding 3,000 rds. of pretty cheap corrosive surplus in '09, bought first Lee reloading gear, so that one day it is not a 'dead end street'.

Corrosive .303 in the US (following nine months with none at distributors) now costs about the same as new, reloadable Prvi.
Why even buy surplus, unless found much cheaper than .50-.60 cents/round?

Its pretty much the same in England - of all the dealers within 50 miles only a couple sell 303 and then have sporadic supplies. Surplus is virtually non-existent and is about the same price as Prvi Partisan.

In the UK we are limited to what ammunition we can buy / hold. I can only buy a maximum of 300 rounds and 'hold at any one time' 400 rounds so we cannot legally build up a stock.

I have bought one of the little Lee handloading kits (the one where you use a hammer) which keeps me going thru' the lean times. I can load about 30 rounds an hour so it gives me something to do on long winter evenings, and with the good quality Prvi cases I'm up to my 10th reload on some of them.

I buy Prvi when I find it

I loved it when Wideners had the 2000 147 grain .311" bullets for $152 shipped. I use them for both .303 Brit and 7.62X54R. Heck I could have used them for 7.7 JAP if I had one of them, too.

I bought a bunch of Kynoch 1952-dated .303 Mark VII from SOG not too long ago. It arrived today.

Packed crappily into a cardboard box (SOG's fault...), two of the boxes had come open and basically disintegrated.

Interesting little yellow boxes of 50 cartridges a piece on charger clips for $22.95 each. Not a terrible deal these days. Ammo is pretty dingy looking cordite loaded stuff. Haven't had a chance to shoot it, but everything I've read says it's great. Hope it is cause I dropped a lot of money on it.

Sadly the word affordable used to be 17¢ a round. Now 60¢ a round sounds good. I bet that we will see less and less of these old war horses at the range. I hesitate so to dig into my meager stash of 400 rds...and yes I reload. When I had my FFL in the late 70's British surplus could be had for 5¢ a round on strippers.

Thumbs up

When you very seasoned shooters suggest buying more and more Prvi., that Says Something.

Despite buying a first Garand and heap of ammo recently, the next gun cash (when it can be "liberated") will go not just for more Prvi but another LE #4!

Approximately five plus years ago a New Zealander told me Prvi Partizan .303 British "cases" were the best he ever used for reloading meaning reloading life of the case. Being a normal red blooded American I said to hell with Commie Pinko eastern block made cases.

Please look at what "stupid" was missing after being told over five years ago about how good Prvi Partazan cases are.

Below is my RCBS Case Mastering Gauge.........

Below is the difference in thickness between a factory Remington case and surplus South African military ammo. The military case is approximately .007 thicker in the base web area.

Below is the thinnest American made case which is Winchester.

This same case stretched and thinned .009 (nine thousandths) when fired in a Enfield with the headspace set at .067.

The Remington cases are thicker than Winchester cases and the Prvi Partizan cases are .010 thicker than the Remington cases. In fact the Prvi Partizan cases are the thickest of all presently made cases and are as thick as American made military cases.

Below is the much vaunted Greek HXP .303 British case next to a Prvi Partizan case fired in the same Enfield rifle.

Guess which low cost ammunition and cartridge cases "stupid" buys every chance he gets now for reloading?

Now please return the favor, do any of you know how to "reload" a beer bottle?
