u.s. property markings ?s

ive been trying to do a little research about my savage enfield and some enfields have a stamp behind the rear sight that says HV =high velocity. all ive got is a V i wonder what that is?

it is either a V or a Y and it's really small.
it is so small it's hard to tell much .
