| Senior Member | I love the Enfield its a true time honoured rifle and calibre,I have two #4 rifles in 303 in as some of you guys like to say "bubberised condition" a very popular thing to do here in the post war years as my dad would put it "you could buy em for a penny a pound" but I also have a very nice example of a #4 rifle that has been nicely sporterised( i can hear the purists scorning me now!!!) and rechamberd in 303-25 it shoots very well as a hunting rifle and I use it to good effect on pigs, dingoes and wild dogs, feral cats and my favourite red meat chital deer.I also have recently acquired a beautifull example of the #5 rifle (jungle carbine) in very good condition also converted to 303-25,(more cries from the purists)sadly I have not had the opportunity to test it out yet!!! but I suspect and hope it shoots as well as its cousin.

| Registered User | I have five Enfields four of which are #4 Mk2's and the other is a #4 Mk1/2. two of theMk2's are both in a very used condition and one has a broken firing pin. The Mk1/2 is in a decent condition and has been fitted with optics. The last two Mk2's are in perfect condition and have never been fired. |

| Registered User | I have a No.4 MK1, my dad bought it many years ago to use as a hunting rifle. It's a sporterized version, I guess, cut back stock also much lighter wood colour than the military versions I've seen. He's used it to bring down many deer and Elk. I've used it hunting only once, but I love the smooth action in the bolt. He's now passed on and the gun is mine, several years ago I saw a military version, the stock wasn't cut back, in a local pawn shop, but I was too nieve to pick it up. I'm kicking myself now, I might go back and see if they still have it... small town, you never know. |

Trader Rating: (1) | I own 2 no.4s the first I bought from a gun shop and shoots great. the other I bought from the gun show for 60 bucks, and keyholes at 50 yards, I plan on rebarreling it soon.

| Registered User | Thanks Timberlord! I was back home this past weekend and picked up the Lee Enfield. It's a '43 No.4 MK1 Made in Maltby England according to the SN lists I've seen 10111 with a "JB" marked close by On both the side of the receiver and on the bolt. As soon as I get pictures I'll put them up. Last edited by IronCanadian; 12-06-2007 at 12:32 AM. |

| Senior Member | Yupper , a Maltby Looks restorable too if you ever make that decision. Heres a good website for Enfield info The Lee-Enfield Rifle Website Below is a pict of a 1943 No4 Savage/Stevens which was sporterized ... then I restored it and then some. I think this is the rifle ( No4T sniper wannabe ) Troy refered to. ![]()

| Senior Member | Thats a 2.5x20 Ruko scope ontop of a ( no drill -no tap)B-Square mount . This rifle is carried all over the cedar swamps of southern Ontario , where the 2.5x scope works very well in close-quarter hunting and out to 200yd targets. I also have an ATI mount on another rifle which is also a no drill/tap . These mounts allow you to scope your No4 without screwing up a original piece of history , not to mention that they can be changed out and the original sights re-installed in a couple of minutes.

| Registered User | I've heard most folks talk about the B Square mount. I've considered scoping my No.4, but wanted to use a no drill mount for exactly the reason you mention. Thanks for the info. Troy |

| Senior Member | I have a "Sporter" (Bubba'd? LOL) 1943 Long Branch #4 MK1* that I got from my dad, and that I am in the process of restoring. In the end, the wood won't be a perfect match, but at least the era is more or less correct. What a shame that so many of these historic rifles were mutilated to make them more "streamlined". ![]() Last edited by thumperpaul; 01-09-2008 at 03:35 PM. |
