fun with optics?

everyone I have told (bragged) about my enfield to has asked are you going to put a scope on it...

I did put about 5 rounds down it in the windy-est part of kansas, and it shot very straight. I am starting to think that I really could go out to 1000?? I still need to get it on paper...pics soon

I am debating.....
I have heard of the scout type mount, and the dovetail-like mount, but would still like to use the ironsights.
My machinery teacher said that there were mounts that made the scope offset from line of sight, to still use irons? Has anyone seen this or done this? or any recomendations? I am pretty handy and would feel comfortable doing a drill and tap job myself but otherwise am limited in the metal working department, I am working with... cutoff-grinder/dremel/handtools/vise/drills/measuring devices

I think my buddy has an Enfield with clamp on scope mount. A more regular placement, not the scout type. I don't believe it drilled and tapped, but I could be wrong.

And I would start small, say 100, then 150, then 200, 500, etc, and work up to 1000. That would be my personal preference.

Please dont drill and tap it, you will destroy its value.
Buy a "no drill and tap" type mount.
Just my opinion

I just bought a scope, it's not a bad idea

If you want to scope the rifle, the ATI no gunsmith mount works well. I just bought one about a month ago, and it holds very steady. I bought a cheap scope, $19.95 from Centerfire systems, a couple of bucks for a set of rings and 30 dollars for the scope mount. I am not real mechanical , but I did all the work to mount it myself. My accuracy at 50 yards last time out was about a 2 inch group shooting without a rest, this weekend I move back to 100 yards and try my luck.

Is this mount for a 1mk3 or a 4mk1??
A buddy of mine has a 2 (yes a .22 cadet) and was thinking to get a scope on it but was looking for a nodrill, no tap mount but doesn't know what to buy!

Problem has (almost) been solved.
The No.2 and No. 1mk3 308 are almost identical so he will get a "ishy mount" and use that! (or modify if needed)

Remember that for 1,000 yard shots you will probably have to use a scope mount with offset rear mount (higher) to get the rifle to impact at point of aim.

This will not be the case because he's going to use the scope at a max of 100 meters!

The scope mount from S&K (no drill/no tap Insta Mount) has arrived but my friend is not able to get it on.
The instructions say: take off the front wood and put the ring over the barrel but then you'll get to the sights!
There are no good drawings or pictures on the S&K site to show how to build it on properly so I was wondering if somebody here had some experience with this type of mount
