| No. 4 Mk 1 finish
Hi, I'm new to Enfield collecting and to the forum. I recently purchase a No.4 Mk 1 in very nice shape. The stock appears to have a varnished finish. I'm trying to find out what the "original" finish should be: Tung oil, linseed oil or varnish? Also, the barrel bands are worn to white metal: what product would restore them to the original black? I appreciate your help Gregg |

The finish should be Boiled Linseed Oil . I'd leave the metal for abit and see what you think later....a little grey might give it character.

My Longbranch also sports some sort of varnish finish. The stock was clearly sanded and varnished or shellaqued. It is in very nice condition I have owned it since 1988.
