No. 4 MK II Manufacture?

I have a No. 4 MK II new in the wrap that has the bayonet and sling also wrapped up with it. The build date is 12/54 and the stamp on the military tag is 1955, the bayonet's tag says No. 4 MK II No. 9 bayonet . The only markings that can be viewed, because the rifle is still in original wrap is the left side of the receiver, which is stamped NO. 4 MK II 12/54, and below that is a serial number that starts with PF39xxxxx the PF is enclosed in a box with the right side of the box being open with the serial number extending out to the right. Any help would be appreciated.

You have a Lee-Enfield No4Mk2 built in December 1954 at the Royal Enfield factory at Fazakerly U.K. These were all post war manufactured rifles and the Mk2 variant saw the trigger being mounted on the receiver vice the magazine well. PFxxxxxxx is a normal serial number for the No4Mk2's. Some the very later had a Axxxxxxxx serial number. Hope this was what you were looking for.

The main difference between a No4Mk1 and the No4Mk2 is how the trigger is mounted inside. On the Mk1, the trigger is mounted on the magazine housing and on the Mk2 it is mounted on the reciever frame. Looking at it from the outside (aside from the markings) you probably could not tell the difference between them.
