Gun Show Report- Kingston, NY

I went to the gunshow today up near Kingston, NY. It was a small show, and nothing there was calling to me to bring it home. I did see two "U.S. Property" Savage No. 4 Mk I* Enfields there, that really broke my heart. They were both sporterized. One of them had the cams for the bayonet ground off. The guy wanted $175.00 for that one. The other one was going for $125.00. I was seriously considering taking that one, because only the stock was cut. It was missing the front sight, and sight protector, but I figured that could be replaced. The front sight base was still there, just no sight. Wierd... Neither were tapped, and had the original flip up sights. The one going for 125 had some pitting on the barrel that would've been covered by the front hand guard. The finish wasn't too bad on both of them. Regardless.... I walked away from both of them, because I don't really have the time, or cash to start another project. The one vendor that was selling the second Enfield had several milsurp rifles there. A Carcano, a Mosin, an Arisaka.... All sporterized. I couldn't believe it. I very rarely see Arisakas at gunshows around here, and here's one that's been bubba'd. I thought that 7.7 mm Jap ammo was pretty scarce too. There was a guy there who was selling Japanese military swords there. I wish I knew more about them, because I was tempted to get a NCO sword that he had there. Again.... walked away due to lack of knowledge. I'll have to start doing my homework on them, if I'm going to get into that.

sporterized ok

I have been known to purchase sporterized military weapons. I would not have done that to the weapon but still the heart is still there.
good pickup on the enfields. get one tomorrow. I have a swiss rifle sporterized. It still does a minute of arc shot even though it doesnt look like a sr.
I feel like I am caring for the long lost military weapons.
Swords. My wife loves swords and Bayonets. She is one easy person to buy for chrismas. Would you rather have swords or rifles for xmas.... answer both.

The last gunshow I went to had quite an array of Enfields , including a '43 Savage "said" to be unissued. I didn't want to pick it up because it was litteraly dripping in cosmo-$500cdn. Also a No4T going for $4000 and a near mint Ross.
I ended up buying 250 rnds of various .303brit , mostly '42-'43 Canadian ( Dominion ) and '41-'42 Winchester (still in original boxes of 20) and a really nice Garand bayo.

Bubba'd No4's have seem to hit an all time high in price ( $150+) but I know there's closet guns out there for a third of that...just gotta hunt them out.

Ishy rifles are excellent. i got a 1963 ishy on .303 brit. that I shoot all the time. I have no idea why they look like that because mine looks like it has been blown up. But i got it for 210 and i use it as a shooter.
