Any idea what this marking means?

Does anyone know what this marking means. I've checked in books and online and I haven't found anything helpful.

It's a regular "S" superimposed onto a "V".

This is on my front sight protector; which is the only part I've found that isn't original to the rifle (a Savage No4 Mk1*).

Its not important; but I'd like to know where it came from.

A wild geuss but maybe Savage? Never seen a marking like that though.

It's not a Savage marking; I finally found other markings when I took the sight guard off. That particular piece was made by Holland & Holland. Could it be a unit/regiment marking?

To me, it just looks like a bunch of restamping? One stamp or mark covered with another that is? To be quite honest, the picture was taken to close or enlarged to the point the picture quality dropped severely. Maybe take another picture and not try to get so close or enlarge it so much?
