303 vs. 308

What's the deal? I have a 303 I bought for $140...the same place I bought it from is selling 308's for $240...talked down to $200. What would be the average knock-down power and at what distances for each? From what I have seen, the 308 is closer to the 30-06 than the 303, true? Which is more accurate?

My own opinion is the 308 has an edge in performance.

The 308 has a greater selection of ammo/components especially if a person reloads. It's also priced better. The 308 is available in more platforms.

That said, I'm a big fan of the 303 as well.

The .308 would be closer to the .30-06

but perhaps the larger point to consider is the mass availability of .308 ammo and components as compared to the .303.

Herein perhaps lies your greater advantage with the .308.

I have both but it's gotta be the .308, much more versatile!

Yeah, I am thinking about getting a 308, I just like the idea of better range (from what I've read), a little more power, greater selection of ammo, etc. Is $200-$240 a good range for a 308?

I read somewhere
" The Mauser 98 is a miltary weapon,
The Enfield a sniper rifle,
the Springfield a target rifle" the 303 is balistically about a 30-06 or 8mm
the 308 depending on who you talk to is closer to the 7.62X54 balistically than 30-06. Remember the history of the rounds 1906 30-06, 303 was pre 1900,and the7.62 Russian was 1891, 308Winchester/7.62 Nato- 1950ish. The 308 was developed when steel was better, hardening better etc... The 308 is more versatile for reloaders and you can find more bullet weights in commecial loads. than the other 30 cal.s It all depends on what you're going to do with it. If you are collecing Enfield's then you need one of each hunting I'd buy a Ishapore in 308. JMHO
