SMLE Rescue

I "rescued" a SMLE No1 MKIII* at a gun show yesterday.

Unfortunately it's already been Bubba'd, but hopefully I can strip the paint off the metal, and find a stock that'll restore it to its beauty. It'll take hard work, but no rifle should have to undergo this treatment!

Looks like your rescue will be able to be saved. As a collector I just can't understand why someone would do something like that. But it doesn't look like the barrel has been cut up and that is a good thing!

Well, I found a .220 Swift rifle on GB that was all uglied with camo paint like this one. I actually looked at it at a WAC show here in WA a couple weekends ago also, and was disappointed to see it in such shape. My dad and I were contemplating what we could do with it if we bought it, but decided it was too highly priced for the bubba job someone with too imaginative of an imagination. Probably would have either stained it dark after taking off the crappy rattle can job, because it was already chipping off in a few places or just sanded it down and put some BLO on it. It turned out pretty good on my Steyr. But it was just too pricey, and the woman wouldn't come down on the price any. Disappointing. I hope they never sell/sold it.

Man somebody got real creative with the spray can. It can still be made into a nice rifle. Good luck.
